About Us
The parish of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini was established on August 15, 1993 and named for Mother Cabrini, the patroness of immigrants. The first pastor was Rev. Richard Matty, a Marist Father in the process of incardination in. Bishop Ochoa solemnly dedicated St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Church on November 21, 1999 under the pastorship of Rev. Frank Lopez.
Mother Cabrini was born in Italy and immigrated to the United States in 1889. She founded the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart who chose as their patrons St. Francis de Sales and St. Francis Xavier. Mother Cabrini and the Sisters of the Sacred Heart ministered to Italian immigrants in New York City and began to work earnestly and wholeheartedly with the poor, the broken, the orphan, and the sick. Mother Cabrini opened many schools, hospitals, and orphanages not only in the United States but also throughout Latin America. On July 7, 1946, she became the first American citizen to be canonized a saint.
It is with great pride and spirit that the parish strives to live by the example of Mother Cabrini as a community of faith. The parish of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini is known for its warm hospitality and inspiring liturgies. Although covering a large territory, the parish continues to find ways to develop an outreach program to address the needs within its boundaries. The parish today has numerous ministries including ACTS, Bible Study, Evangelization, Knights of Columbus, Parents Helping Parents, St. Vincent de Paul, Youth Groups, Matrimonios, and Our Daily Bread. The community is sensitive to immigration issues and addresses them accordingly.
