The El Paso Museum of Art is excited to announce our newest exhibition A Beautiful Mess: Weavers & Knotters of the Vanguard on view from May 23 – August 18! This all-women exhibition will showcase fiber artworks the size of your hand to room-sized installations. Using rope, yarn, clay, and wire, this group of conceptual artists knot and twist their media into sculptures that range from minimal and hyper-organized to utter pandemonium. They explore personal and political ideals and freely break the rules to create their beautiful artworks.
EPMA also invites the community to a co-weaving project organized by El Paso artist, Cynthia Gutierrez-Krapp. Additionally, mini-looms will feature touchable fiber displays that encourage visitors to connect and understand the intricacies of fiber art!
A Beautiful Mess: Weavers & Knotters of the Vanguard was organized by Bedford Gallery at the Lesher Center for the Arts, Walnut Creek, California. Support for this exhibition is provided by the Mellon Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Texas Commission on the Arts, the El Paso Museum of Art Foundation, and the City of El Paso Museums and Cultural Affairs Department.

Art brings us together! At EPMA, artist Gaspar Enríquez, pictured in the first photos, reconnected with former student Carmen Reyes from Bowie High School. Carmen’s daughter Italia (far right) won 2nd place in Congressional Art Competition. In the last image, three members of the talented Delgado family members are pictured, all of whom have had work on display at the Museum this year. We love seeing the El Paso art community come together at EPMA!
