The gordita is an El Paso staple: a reflection of some of the gastronomical richness that adds vibrance to our community. The MACC is equipped with a Teaching Kitchen that will offer a variety of classes for the public to connect with border food traditions, just like the Gordita. We can’t wait to see the diversity of Mexican cuisines that will be explored within our learning kitchens! ¡Que viva la gordita!

How kermés gorditas became a cherished El Paso tradition Catholic church bazaars in El Paso have a long history with deep-fried gorditas.

The Parade Orientation is this Saturday morning (08/24). We’ll be covering guidelines, route, and will have a papier-mâche mask workshop led by Xingaderas, as well as a catrina make-up lesson led by Gisselle Garcia! This means that we’ll have the opportunity to have some fun and get creative all while getting you equipped to be fully in the spirit for our Dia de Los Mu***os celebration.

La Orientación del Desfile será este sábado por la mañana (24 de agosto). Estaremos repasando las normas, la ruta, y tendremos un taller de mascaras hechas con papel mache dirigido por Xingaderas, al igual que una lección de maquillaje de catrina dirigida por Gisselle García! Esto significa que tendremos la oportunidad de divertirnos y de ser creativos mientras te equipas para estar completamente presente en el espíritu del Dia de Mu***os el mero día de nuestra celebración.

Museums and Cultural Affairs Department - City of El Paso sends out our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Nancy Lorenza Green who passed away last night. Nancy was a fronteriza, educator, artist, musician, poet, community activist, and overall beacon of positivity in our arts community. She will be greatly missed, but her impact on generations of students will keep her memory and works alive.

Nancy received numerous grants over the years in support of her diverse body of work through MCAD's Cultural Funding Program. Please read one of Nancy's poems from her recent MCAD-funded Arts Activate Program, completed with the David L. Carrasco Job Corps:

An important new piece completed by our colleagues at City of El Paso Public Art Program honors the memories of the 23 lives lost in the mass shooting of August 3, 2019 and the resilience and unity that the community showed. Local artist Tino Ortega's piece challenges the bigoted rhetoric against Latino demographic growth and immigration that fueled that motivated the violence that day. It's being dedicated on the fifth anniversary of the shoting this Saturday, after which you can visit.

El Paso to unveil new memorial on 5-year Walmart shooting anniversary El Paso honors the five-year anniversary of the Walmart mass shooting with a new memorial by local artist Tino Ortega, unveiled at Jim Crouch Park.

Our last writing workshop with author and scholar Tim Z. Hernandez will be taking place at the Sergio Troncoso Library located at 9321 Alameda Ave, El Paso, TX 79907.

These writing workshops where participants got to learn about publishing, editing and the writing process, were part of our summer outreach community program. Participants got to write their own stories and poems while engaging with different writing prompts and exercises.

Estos talleres de escritura donde los participantes aprendieron sobre cómo publicar y editar un libro y sobre el proceso de escritura fueron parte de nuestro programa de verano de extensión a la comunidad. Join our Hand Embroidery Workshop with Lizbeth Sanchez Pineda from Cushi Cushi 915 and celebrate Frida!

Born on July 6, 1907, Frida Kahlo was a Mexican contemporary and surrealist artist. Now an iconic figure around the world, Frida often found inspiration from the nature and culture of México. Frida passed on July 13, 1954 in her home in Coyoacán Mexico, famously known now as ‘La Casa Azul’.

During this workshop, participants will create a 4 inch diameter hand embroidered ornament with a Frida pattern and will learn three basic types of stitches.

No experience is required. All materials are included.
Workshop is free and open to the public, but of limited space!
