EPSW builds individual and collective pride in El Paso and the surrounding southwest by providing quality books and art for purchase, local pop-ups and mini-events that emphasize our history, heritage, culture, heroes, characters, literary icons, UTEP, artists, art and architecture, Latino influence, border issues, natural resources…etc.

It’s all part of what makes us the city, region and people with the singularly unique cultural mix that we were yesterday, are today and are evolving into tomorrow.

CORMAC McCARTHY books with family ties from his personal collection.

A Christmas present given to Cormac and his second wife Anne from his brother Dennis and his family. Cormac kept the tag along with a chunk of wrapping paper and tape and put it inside the front cover of the gift book.

A personal book gift to Cormac with an ironically humorous typed inscription from famed book collector and bibliographer J. Howard Woolmer.
A close personal friend of McCarthy’s, Woolmer began collecting his work from the getgo and put together an important collection of 120 personal letters between the two, as well as dozens of other McCarthy books, manuscripts, etc.

Cormac sarcastically responds to the first line of Ch. 17 in a book titled “The Scalp Hunters”. This book which came from the library the University of Tennessee in Knoxville where he was a student but then dropped out to pursue his writing career.
The book may have informed the writing of his book Blood Meridian which was a brutal novel about scalp hunters in the old west.

Enjoy these fascinating CORMAC McCARTHY notations and written musings I discovered on the margins and on a “bookmark” within Cormac’s personal copy of Meditations on Quixote.

more CORMAC McCARTHY TREASURE!
Tucked inside one of Cormac’s personal books (on addiction and recovery) I found this scratch paper bookmark with seemingly random notes written by Cormac McCarthy.

I had a suspicion that they could be lines that possibly tied into one of his novels and upon a little research, the line that refers to someone named “Boyd” is directly referencing an important character named Boyd in his novel “The Crossing”, part of his Border Trilogy.

Boyd is the younger brother of Billy Parham, a teenaged cowboy and the main protagonist of McCarthy’s coming of age novel.

I believe that these “random” notes by Cormac may have possibly found their way into that particular novel in one form or another.
