Home sweet home. 🦉
This morning, members of the El Paso Del Norte AAZK Chapter volunteered their time to refurbish burrowing owl nest boxes on zoo grounds.
These nest boxes were installed by the chapter years ago for wild burrowing owls to inhabit our zoo’s man-made desert wetland habitat. Burrowing owls will often nest in drainage culverts due to urbanization. These nest will often be displaced by rainstorms. The nest boxes provide a safe environment for the local owl population to raise their young.
The refurbishments were done by chapter members Matthew, Noah, and Nicholas. This was made possible thanks to Joe, Luis, Angel, and Kenny of the El Paso Zoo who donated supplies and efforts to the project.
We look forward to our feathered friend’s arrival in their new homes! 🏡

In the animal care industry mental health is often cast aside for the sake of the animals in our care. Animal care workers put the needs of their animals before themselves. The burnout is real. The compassion fatigue is constant. Join us in helping our El Paso animal care teams get the help they deserve.
We are proud to join our local artists in in raising money to obtain mental health resources for animal care workers.
