Participate in, 'Keepmas in July', a NEW event from the AAZK Resource Committee!

This event is a sharing of items event from one Chapter to another. Gifts can include but not limited to: AAZK Chapter swag, animal art, candy/ snacks, enrichment items, greeting cards, and keeper survival items. The spending/value price limit is a minimum of $25 and a maximum of $50. Sign your Chapter up by 7/1/24. Chapters will then be paired together and confirmation emails sent out with additional details by 7/20/23.

Come visit the El Paso AAZK table at the EPZ Hear Me Roar event! We are here to celebrate Pride and to raise money for mental health programs for the zoo workers, who come from all orientations and expressions!

The end of May means more than warmer days ahead, it meant another year to celebrate World Parrot Day! 🌎🦜

Our zoo’s education team and chapter members got together to celebrate this great day by providing some very destructible enrichment and treats for our Macaw exhibit! 🎁

The El Paso Zoo is home to three macaws. Rio and Mac, our blue and gold macaws, and Festus, our military macaw, all took the stage for our celebration! Along with their zookeeper, Rebecca, the boys had a blast to remind everyone how much fun a flock of parrots can have. 🎉

Macaws are the largest parrot species, varying in size but remaining the big birds they are. The average lifespan will typically range into the mid 40s, while some have been recorded reaching 70 years old. With some of the widest color ranges in the animal kingdom and the ability to mimic human speech, these birds are a marvelous species!

The is a proud honorary member of the . An organization dedicated to the preservation of all parrot species that helps raise awareness for threats such as illegal pet trade and deforestation. Visit them to learn more about these amazing birds and what you can do to help! 💚💙

During the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, the El Paso Del Norte AAZK Chapter hosted a virtual art auction, called “Creativity Meets Conservation”. Proceeds from the event went to to help rebuild their sanctuary that was burned down from California wildfires. The sanctuary is crucially important to the conservation of California Condors, the largest and one of the most critically endangered North American bird species. 🎨🪶

The events success was in large part due to our chapter’s vice president, Eduardo Guzman. Eddie’s deep connection with local artists and conservation helped in gathering donations and spreading awareness. To this day, the event is among our most successful efforts.

This last week, Eddie took the Conservation Meets Creativity legacy to new heights. In partnership with , , , the El Paso Zoo unveiled the Singing Tree mural. Created by our community artists and zoo guests representing their passion for conservation and artistic talent. ❤️ The mural will remain on display in our zoo’s amphitheater until August 1st.

Our chapter is happy to announce that alongside the mural, multiple artist submitted pieces and summaries that we will be sharing with our community over the next coming weeks. Stay tuned for more and let us know which piece you love!

A project that began Earth Day weekend and culminated with a grand unveiling this past Monday, this singing tree mural represents the passion of 200 El Pasoans. Thank you for allowing the El Paso Zoo to be the home of this mural.

Today we proudly unveiled a community mural made by you, our Zoo guests, in cooperation with , local artists and advocates for inclusivity Pamela Vigo Sanchez - , Lally Badgon - , and the Zoo's own Eddie Guzman led a ceremony honoring hundreds of artists in the community as well as dozens of our featured artists.

Make sure to pay the El Paso Zoo a visit between now and August 1st to take in the beautiful work of El Paso's talented artists.

🇺🇸 As we approach Memorial Day, we honor and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

All Parks and Recreation facilities will be closed on Monday, May 27 in observance of this solemn occasion.

Regular hours of operation will resume on Tuesday, May 28.
