Attending the Red, White, Blue and You event at District56 in Elk Grove. There is still time to come on out and take advantage of this free Job and Resource Fair. We will be he until 2pm. Come on out and say hi!

06/06/2024

It was 80 years ago that brave men and women stood against evil, against well, fortified enemy. They fought from the beaches and with every foot gained, many lives were lost. We will never forget their sacrifices, their courage, and dedication to free people from the horror that drove them from their homes and countries. We honor and thank you for everything you've done for our country and theirs. You Will Never Be Forgotten.

06/02/2024

It's that time again. Please talk to the paymaster to stay up to date.

Today is June 1 - all annual membership within the Marine Corps League (MCL) expires August 31 — in 90-days. This is a great opportunity for local leadership to craft a letter thanking each member for their continued service to the Detachment and why their renewal is important to the greater mission of the Detachment and the MCL. Include an invoice for membership renewal with a self-addressed envelope.

A good plan of action is to send membership renewal notices 90 days before due date. Consider sending a notice 60 days before and even 30 days before as reminders - if needed.

Membership dues are paid to the local Detachment. Detachment leadership submits proper reports and dues payment to their Department; who subsequently submits to the MCL National Office.

This is a great read about the journalists who wrote the story of Belleau Wood.

Semper Fi Devil Dogs!

During WWI, German soldiers took to calling U.S. Marines “devil dogs” for their tenacity; the underlying truth remains. U.S. Marines fight with fierce bravery… and they even inspired a devilish snack cake, which we still enjoy today!

Our Toys for Tots drive was a success! Thank you to the Marine Corps Reserve center, active and reserve members, for helping put this together and a big "thank you" to all of our League members who came out to help. We still have a couple more weeks to collect donations for the children. Contact me for the nearest donation center near you.

They are rebuilding Tun Tavern. Expected to be ready for the Marine Corps 250th Birthday! Who's going ?

It’s official - Tun Tavern will be reconstructed in time for the 250th anniversary of the Marine Corps! Click on link below for details.

“A temporary replica of Tun Tavern was built for the 1926 Sesquicentennial Exposition in Philadelphia. For the 2026 Semiquincentennial, Homecoming 250’s partner The Tun Tavern Legacy Foundation will recreate The Tun as a permanent, operating tavern. The Semiquincentennial and area redevelopment provide an unmatched opportunity to realize the dreams of many Marines, Masons, and others: to raise a pint of beer or ale at Tun Tavern. Although its original site at Water Street is now occupied by Interstate 95, we are working to recreate The Tun as near as possible to its original site.”
