We will hold the Dinner and Annual Meeting next month at our regularly scheduled meeting time, February 20th at 6:30 pm for Dinner.

⚠️ Due to the risk of canine infectious respiratory disease spreading among dogs both locally and nationwide, we have cancelled the remaining handling classes for this year. ⚠️

We are hopeful to resume handling classes in January. Please contact your handling class instructors with any questions.

The New AKC Fetch Program

When dog owners are asked about activities they like to do with their dogs, the most common responses are to take their dog for a walk, and to play ball (fetch) with the dog.

AKC Fetch titles were created as another activity in which owners could have fun with their dogs in the AKC Family Dog program. Earning AKC Fetch titles provides opportunities for both physical and mental exercise. The Mission of the AKC Purebred Preservation Bank (AKCPPB) is to ensure the viability of purebred dogs.

Preservation of genetic material is not just for the breeds with lower-than-average levels of breeding activity. Any breed could be susceptible to genetic bottlenecks or difficulties as the discovery of new diseases emerges or other crises arise. Storing diverse genetic material could address unknown future health concerns and rejuvenate breeding programs.

The American Kennel Club Announces 2023-2024 Veterinary Outreach Scholarship

The American Kennel Club (AKC®), a not-for-profit organization, the world’s largest purebred dog registry and leading advocate for dogs, continues its commitment to students pursuing veterinary studies with the announcement of the 2023-2024 AKC Veterinary Outreach Scholarship recipients.

These scholarships aim to support those with backgrounds in AKC events and programs seeking to promote animal health and medicine. A total of $73,000 in scholarship money was awarded, with awards ranging from $2,000-$10,000. See the recipients here: http://caninechronicle.com/?p=265882
