Help us protect red pandas and their forest.
Are you red-y for ? ❤️
Today is all about celebrating the pawsitively amazing red panda! We're home to a red panda pack—dad ‘Linus’, mom ‘Udaya’, and their cubs ‘Anshu’ (male) and ‘Aahana’ (female). As an accredited zoo, we proudly participate in the Red Panda Species Survival Plan (SSP), which helps maintain the genetic diversity of this endangered species in human care, to safeguard their future for generations.
You can lend a helping paw, too! 🐾 Habitat loss is a major threat for this species, but you can make a difference by choosing Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified paper and lumber products to help protect forest homes all over. 📝🌱
Stop by Exploration Asia to wish our red panda family a happy International Red Panda Day!

Native to high forests of Asia, Red Pandas have reddish brown coats, and long bushy tails.

Red pandas are charismatic, solitary animals from the Himalayan Mountains. They specialize on eating bamboo! Bamboo is so important to their diet that it’s part of their name. The word panda likely originated from the local name for red panda in Nepal and Sikkim, India, which is nigálya-pónya meaning eater of bamboo.
With only about 2,500 wild red pandas remaining, this endangered species needs our help! We are hosting a fundraiser for the Red Panda Network, a nonprofit that helps protect and restore red panda habitat.
Now through the end of September, the Sequoia Park Zoo Conservation Fund is matching donations up to $1,000!
Will you help us restore red panda habitat? Make a donation!

Join us in celebrating with these adorable brothers, Freddie and Remi! 🐾 They are part of a global effort to raise awareness for red pandas, whose populations are sadly in decline with an estimated less than 10,000 left in the wild.
The boys are enjoying their day with an extra bamboo snack! 🌿Red pandas will eat up to 20,000 leaves each day in the wild! They have special adaptations that help them enjoy their bamboo, including large molars and skulls for chewing, and an elongated wrist bone called a pseudo thumb to help them grip.
Come visit Freddie and Remi today to see their cuteness up close and learn how you can help protect their wild counterparts!

We have been helping to protect endangered red pandas in their native range of the Eastern Himalayas through the Red Panda Network.
The biggest threat to red pandas is habitat loss due to the destruction of their native forests. By funding vital projects such as tree planting and reforestation, we have helped to support and empower local people to plant over half a million trees in red panda territory... and counting! 🌳
Visit our red panda habitat to learn more about the conservation of this elusive species and discover how you can help by supporting the Red Panda Network today.
