Meet John Chang, BS ’95 (economics). As executive director of College Possible Oregon, John leads efforts to provide free college access and success programs for students facing barriers to higher education.
With over twenty years of experience in student success programs, John champions underrepresented and low-income students. Born to immigrant parents in Portland, he knows the transformative power of education.
John and his team offer students six years of coaching support, partnering with high schools and colleges statewide, including the University of Oregon.

Meet John Branam, JD ’04. A graduate of Oregon Law, John's education taught him resilience and critical thinking skills, which he applies daily in his role as a nonprofit leader.
As the executive director of Get Schooled, John leads the nation’s only free, all-digital college and first jobs advisor, providing personalized support to primarily Black, Brown, and low-income youth. With over fifteen years of experience in senior leadership roles in national education organizations, John is dedicated to advocating for young people of color.
In addition to his work at Get Schooled, John served on the UO Alumni Association Board of Directors from 2018–2024.

Meet Marisa Macy, a proud "Double Duck" (MS Special Education '00, PhD Special Education '04) and John P. Ellbogen Foundation Professor of Early Childhood Education at the University of Wyoming. Marisa's commitment to paying it forward led her to join the Division for Early Childhood's DECIDE mentorship program. Through DECIDE, she connected with Karen Zyskind, a current UO Special Education Programs student. Meet Erika Bare, BS ’00 (education studies), MEd ’01 (educational policy and management). With over two decades of experience, Erika is the incoming superintendent for the South Umpqua School District #19 in Myrtle Creek, Oregon.
Starting as a special education teacher, she transitioned to school administration, serving in various roles including assistant principal, principal, director of student services, and assistant superintendent.

Meet Trevor Thompson, MMus ’18 (music education). Graduating from the UO School of Music and Dance, Trevor is dedicated to sharing his passion for music.
As a graduate assistant, he learned the importance of organization and student care, skills he brings to Joseph Lane Middle School in Roseburg, Oregon. His fun teaching style has led to high enrollment in high school band and exceptional student retention rates.
Recognized with the Outstanding Middle School Music Educator award by the Oregon Music Education Association in January 2024, Trevor's impact on his students is profound.
