We’re throwing it back again this Thursday! This time a short story on Burly Blend. ☕️ First off, it’s back for August! This blend was created in 2001 in the depths of our old roastery on Prospect Ave. and developed quite a following over the years.

With one sip of its rich, smoky and complex profile, Burly Blend brings you back to the days when our roastery was just off the cafe at Prospect. Now, if you haven’t had this coffee before—well, now it’s just awkward. With that being said, we encourage you to try a cup of this coffee from the past! 

We’re celebrating National Coffee Month at our longest-standing cafe—right where Burly Blend first came to life. It’ll be available all August long, only at Colectivo on Prospect or our webstore. Happy sipping, everyone!

We’re throwing back with a Milwaukee legend! Featuring Dick Bacon & Punch In The Face.

Dick Bacon was an unparalleled man—known for his undaunting enthusiasm for tanning year-round at Bradford Beach on Lake Michigan.

In the mid-1990s, long-standing Colectivo designers Janice and Joeski created a series of coffee bag designs depicting the different stages of coffee production. One of these designs featured Dick Bacon, posing as a working man hauling sacks of coffee.

How did we get there? Well, it started with the hunt for the legendary Dick Bacon…

Which wasn’t all that difficult. Janice and Joeski found him sunbathing at the lakefront in the middle of winter. It was kind of like yesterday, except not summer—a beautiful beach, blanketed by mostly undisturbed snow—there he was, Dick Bacon in all his glory with his trusty foil panels. They asked Bacon if he would like to model for their coffee bag.

Bacon was ecstatic, he wholeheartedly agreed without any hesitation. Janice and Joeski spent hours taking photos and making sketches. Bacon, being the character that he is, shared stories of his life during the session, leaving an impression of a lifetime on the two artists.

The artwork, as you see here, depicted Bacon as a robust working man, wearing a white sleeveless t-shirt instead of his normal attire. Despite the change in clothing, many locals recognized bacon on the coffee bags, much to his delight.

This design quickly wove itself into the fabric of Alterra/Colectivo culture, tying the strength of our coffee to Bacon’s legendary physique. It’s a fun tale that we’re thrilled to share with our community.

This honey processed coffee comes to us from a farm named “La Bendicion” owned by Nayler Reatiga. This process generally requires an incredible amount of attention to detail and undergo strict guidelines—but the result is well worth it: a specific flavor profile exclusive to the honey process. 👏

This is our very first offering from our new friends at Delagua Coffee Paradise. This group of producers focuses on sustainability of water as a necessary natural resource—20% of all profits are donated to local resources.
