The Shrimp Mozambique boasts of a rich historical background. Interestingly, the official language of Mozambique is in fact Portuguese, and similar to the language, the food of Mozambique is infused with Portuguese influence.

It was centuries ago, around 1498, that the famous Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama arrived in Mozambique. He endorsed the region so much that many more Portuguese visitors and traders were attracted towards building their settlements and establishing themselves here. Gradually agricultural produce such as potatoes and corn, pepper pods, chilli seeds made their way to Africa through Portuguese traders. These began to be used to spice seafood preparations.
