One of the easiest fixes you can do is to keep those gutters, downspouts, and areaway drains free from debris. Even better is to upgrade those old 4” gutters and downspouts to 6” ones. Don’t forget to extend those downspouts away from your home’s foundation. Hydrostatic pressure is a real problem in our area and is often the primary cause of foundation issues.

Indeed, the answer to the riddle is none other than a broken clothes washer hose – a notorious culprit and one of the leading causes of homeowner’s insurance claims in the US.
