Roberts Street Chapel

you are familiar with any of the previous 7 installations, you may recall that the paintings were created on traditional frame and canvas, totaling 21 individual paintings for the 55 feet of wall. We wanted to change this, for many reasons – logistically it’s difficult to store and transport the 21 paintings, it took a long time to prepare a new installation, and we wanted to see if we could make the canvas continuous and eliminate corners. We sourced the materials and idea of the new method locally. On this new installation, the black plastic was obtained by RPI of Alexandria Minnesota, and the canvas was sewn by Tarps “R” Us of Hawley, Minnesota. The poles in the sleeves of the canvas are from a previous artwork. Dakota Construction fabricated the steel stands. The whole new method arose from an idea posed Herb Ludwig Jr., and Marjorie Schlossman created the painting. Many wonder about the purpose of the Roberts Street Chapel, and we’d like to allow the participant the opportunity to come up with their own meaning. It is a place where one can spend a moments in contemplation and hopefully come away inspired and energized by the experience. There is no religious angle that we are trying to impart upon you. We do have established hours for the Chapel, from 1-4 PM, Monday – Thursday. It may be open at other times during the day – just look for the open sign.
