World Hearing Day was March 3 and to celebrate, NBC-HIS participated in an open house held by the International Hearing Society in their newly-opened world headquarters. NBC-HIS staff had materials onsite to share with hearing healthcare professionals in attendance about earning board certification. Board-certified Hearing Aid Specialist Hillary Wright, BC-HIS, met with local consumers sharing why hearing care is important to overall well-being and answering their questions.
This year's World Hearing Day theme was "Changing Mindsets." We are so proud of the work board certificants like Hillary are doing to break the stigma around hearing care. Hillary shared, "I am trying to break the stigma of hearing aids by educating people on how hearing aids can help keep you engaged and feeling young again! Hearing loss can be such a factor in social isolation. Learning more about the long-term benefits of treating hearing loss can have many positive impacts on people’s lives.”

NBC-HIS has a wonderful opportunity for highly motivated professionals to share their hearing healthcare knowledge and expertise as Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) working on exam development work.
The Job Task Analysis (JTA) is conducted every five to seven years and NBC-HIS is scheduled to conduct the analysis this year. As part of the process, we are recruiting board certificants to join the Exam Committee. This committee will develop the JTA survey and then use the results to develop an updated exam blueprint. Based on input from certificants through the JTA study, that blueprint is the foundation of the exam denoting what aspects of professional practice will be assessed.
Deadline to apply is March 6, 2024! If you are interested in applying to serve on the exam committee, learn more and complete the application here: https://bit.ly/NBC-Exam-Committee
