Making Spirits Bright
Making Spirits Bright was founded in 2008 by Meg Keys and Maria Dismondy. MSB is a 501c3.
We collect and distribute books to partners to provide for their literacy programs in Detroit and surrounding areas.
Books can be windows for children to look into an experience unfamiliar to them!!!
These books are sooooooo popular when we go into schools that we have to limit one per kid! We are fundraising to be able to purchase more popular and diverse titles for the children we serve.
Hi FB Friends! I need your help sharing this post please. 🙂
Making Spirits Bright gets books into hands of children and families in Metro Detroit who do not have access to age appropriate and culturally relevant books.
We are serving close to 5000 students this fall with our programming and we need more books!!!
How you can help!!!
#1 Share this post with your community!
#2 Drop off gently used books to our Farmington location during office hours (1-2x a week starting in September) 28580 Orchard Lake Road Suite 104 Farmington Hills, MI 48344
Office Hours are posted on the main page of our website www.makingspiritsbright.org
#3 Share with a business or school to host a Book Drive. Better yet, TAG SOMEONE who works at a school or business that may want to host a drive.
This is where the community donates used books. No new books need to be purchased. It's a great opportunity for kids to practice leadership skills running the drive and give back to the community.

Messages of kindness are all around us!!
One person CAN make a difference. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
It may require sacrifice but if you are passionate about a certain cause, YOU can advocate and make positive change.
Is there a little free library near you?
These are a great way to share your gently used books with your community. I (Maria-Co-Founder) like to drop my already read books in a little free library on vacation instead of lugging the books I read home!!!
When they say books can be windows, 🪟 it means children can look into another experience and get a glimpse!!!
It was a productive morning here at MSB with a group of team members from We appreciate your hands in helping us do important work!
“My birthday is the same as MLK Juniors! I can’t wait to read this book!”
Just one of the MANY reasons we do what we do… to help the community we serve make positive connections to books and discover the joy of reading.
