I wanted to introduce our other teacher for this Fall’s class Women in the Church, Shannon Barrowcliff! She works in CPG selling to Walmart. A transplant from sunny California, you can find her training for her next half marathon or facilitating an elaborate game night with friends. She and her husband, Mark, are passionate about youth ministry and have two fur babies, Edmund and Murphy.

As she prepares for Women in the Church, she hopes “people learn to question and wrestle with their own beliefs. Not to necessarily change their stance but to have a firmer understanding of what and why they believe what they do.”

We are so excited to start the dive with Shannon on Sunday, September 12 at 4:30!

08/12/2021

This is a 7 week class that will go over the 5 most quoted passages from Paul’s letters about women in the church. We will look at how the original audience might have understood these instructions, as well as how the passages have been interpreted throughout the Christian faith.

You can find the week-by-week itinerary on our website when you sign up! Please commit to our time together, the content will build on itself to an extent. If you can only make a few weeks, please come as you are able!

We do not pretend to be scholars or any kind of authority on this topic. We simply want to wholeheartedly examine Scripture together.

This is Tassel Collective: to bridge the gap between having spiritual gifts and being empowered to use them. Sometimes that means exercising them, sometimes it’s digging deep into studying what the Spirit’s true intentions are. A lot of times it feels like we need years and years of experience in ministry for an entry level role in the church or even as a volunteer. And for a vast portion of the church women and minorities don’t have opportunities to sharpen our gifts in an educated way because of specific interpretations of Scripture, socioeconomic biases and doctrine created around them.

At Tassel we look at all interpretations that adhere to the Nicene Creed and want to understand how we got to each Biblical stance. We welcome wrestling. We gladly encourage all denominations and expressions of the Divine to participate and engage. This is a safe space to come to the Text with your full feelings, doubts and hurts. We do not have any other agenda other than to study the Scriptures together in a mutually respectful way.

Some of us aren’t willing to sit and let our Spirit-led gifts waste away any longer. Some of us want to study the Word without biases. We all want the fullness of the Spirit here on earth. We want to be faithful with what God has given us. And for those who would like to join me, there is Tassel Collective.

It came to my attention I never actually introduced myself on here. Hiii, I’m Lizz Weaver. Born and bred in Wichita, Kansas. I transferred down to NWA in college, swore I was going to leave ASAP and I’ve now lived here for 10 years! I married a Pittsburgh Yinzer, I have two precious Native babies with him, and our Great Dane is everyone’s emotional support. In my pre-mom life I have been a graphic/product designer, administrative assistant, musical theater enthusiast, and painter. I’ve always loved writing, always loved Jesus and the Word, and always felt a little off-beat.

Four years ago I realized I had given up looking for ways to be used in the way They created and filled me. Since then, I’ve put in every effort to not only look for, but say “yes” to opportunities that use my gifts even if they felt out of my league. I ended up creating a lot of my own opportunities because there weren’t many people looking for entry level women to lead, pastor, or teach Scripture. My friends were finding the same to be true for them. So, I decided I would create a space for us. *gestures widely*

Some unforeseen bumps have occurred and we need to postpone Unpacking the Debate for a few weeks. We appreciate your prayers during this time. Be sure to sign up to get updates!
