We are excited about the recent $1 million grant from the Golden LEAF Foundation for flood mitigation. The funding will go towards the design and construction of the Blounts Creek Stream Enhancement project. This initiative is a key piece of the Russell-Person Street Bridge Replacement Project aimed at enhancing local infrastructure and environmental sustainability.
The Russell-Person Street Bridge, damaged by fire on Dec. 25, 2023, will see new improvements in storm drainage and potential reconstruction of Blounts Creek's banks, paving the way for a better bridge design. The City and NCDOT are collaborating on this vital project.
