Pregnant in this heat and need to cool off? We highly recommend these, found at Gel inside cools you off when pressure is applied to it. Put it under your bed sheet, behind your back, over your lap….

EACH of these things happens at all our local hospitals. One civilian hospital in particular loves to keep you in bed after your water breaks. And all hospitals will put you on a clear liquid diet (though we have seen some nurses be a wonderful advocate against this in some circumstances).

Want to decline but need an experienced person on your side who isn’t employed by the hospital? Hire a doula. We help you feel empowered!

💬 I asked my brand new provider about my weight (as an indirect way to judge for weight bias). She said, "It doesn't matter. We look at the whole picture, and that tells me you and your baby are healthy."

Know that there are size-friendly professionals out there.

And when you find them, it's a feeling of validation, respect, and comfort that's absolutely worth seeking. 🙌

Sciatica! That sharp pinching that shoots down your leg and can make it buckle. Super uncomfortable, very common in pregnancy. Love this tip!! Being in the pool during pregnancy can feel sooooo good. (Don’t forget sunscreen, and to hydrate!)

We were never meant to live like this. Want to know why you’re so tired? It’s not just because your baby wakes all night. It’s not just because you’re nursing 24/7. It’s not because of your baby’s biological needs. It’s because we were never meant to live like this. In so much isolation. So alone. We were meant for a village. We were meant to lay in bed for weeks/months feeding and sleeping with our new baby while our mothers, grandmothers, sisters, cousins, neighbors, and friends helped out.

But there is no mother bringing us food and water. No grandma cooking the meals. No sisters playing with the other children. No cousins folding the laundry. No neighbors taking care of the house, and no friends providing support. Modern life is in constant conflict with childrearing and our biological needs. From returning to work at 6 weeks postpartum to little to no support in the postpartum period. The truth is many of us are just lucky enough to have someone drop a meal off but not lucky enough to have them actually come inside. And it’s not their fault. They don’t have a village either. There’s never been a mother to bring them food and water. Never a grandma to cook their meals. Never sisters playing with their other children. Never cousins folding the laundry. Never neighbors taking care of the house and never friends providing support.

Our babies are biologically designed to wake often and eat often. We are biologically designed for a village. Be easy on yourself and your baby. We were never meant to live like this.

Let's talk about preeclampsia - breaking the stigma is important.

The biggest thing with this condition is awareness and that happens by talking about it! Preeclampsia is a serious medical condition affecting a pregnant woman's blood pressure. It is typically developed after 20 weeks gestation. Having high blood pressure can put excessive amounts of stress on the mothers heart which can lead to life threatening complications for both mom and baby if left untreated. It is not yet known why some women develop this condition.

Here's what you can do: know the signs, receive regular prenatal care, assess your risk factors

Is an part of your ? Things have to happen first before you can get an epidural. The process could take 30+ minutes.

How will you cope with the intensity of the contractions while you wait?

What if the epidural doesn’t work right away?

Consider hiring a doula so you have the continuous, knowledgeable support you deserve. 💕

Save this and tuck it away for later! This is your journey and consent matters. I’ve had OBs, walk in to a delivery room, grab and amniohook, say “ok we’re going to break your water…”, open the laboring person’s legs, and proceed WITHOUT obtaining explicit consent. Without explaining. Without informing. 😡😡

Our role as your doula is not to tell you what to do, or to cause tension in the room, or to protect you. Our job IS to help you speak up, to remind you that you are in control, and to make sure you understand the hows and whys of childbirth. 💕

Contact us today to meet one of our doulas and learn more about how she can support you.

What kind of medical pain management are you open to?

The only thing predictable about childbirth is that it is unpredictable! Childbirth classes are a great way to familiarize yourself with all your options. Don’t let the first time you learn about the risks/benefits of IV pain meds or an epidural (or anything!) be while you’re in labor. 💕

We have open availability for customizable private classes! Contact us to discuss scheduling your private childbirth education class.
