๐จPETS HEALING VETS PET HOSPITALIZED๐จ
We urgently need donations now! Donate at bit.ly/DonatePHV.
Colossal Handsome, who is paired with our Veteran Jada, was hospitalized yesterday and is in critical condition. Colossal began crashing during the day and was rushed to an emergency clinic. The clinic discovered severe pain in and a mass on one of his kidneys, and he was referred to an internal medicine doctor and transported to a specialty veterinarian.
He was held overnight and will have a biopsy of his kidney taken today in order to find out if his condition is treatable to terminal. We are all incredibly heartbroken that he and Jada are going through this after being together for only two years, but we are going to do everything in our power to get him better, if possible.
BUT, WE NEED YOUR HELP! Colossal Handsome's care is going to be thousands of dollars due to the extent of his illness and the diagnostics and treatments required for him. We are urging you to donate to his care now at bit.ly/DonatePHV.

Ruby had bloodwork done today to figure out why she's been lethargic; 100% of her medical care will be covered through Pets Healing Vets, for her lifetime, leaving one less burden on her Veteran.

One of the many reasons Pets Healing Vets is unique...
Preston was paired with his Veteran three years ago but still comes to Humane Society for Hamilton County (Indiana) for spa days. Preston is comfortable at the shelter where there are familiar faces (such as his favorite volunteer groomer), and we're happy to help his dad get him smelling and looking his best ๐พ๐บ๐ธ
These visits are free of cost - we're not kidding when we say EVERYTHING in the program is covered for each participating Veteran. Preston was also sent home with six months of preventatives, 100% funded by the Pets Healing Vets program.
How are your donations used? ๐พ๐บ๐ธ
Pets Healing Vets donations are used to fund all pre-and-post adoption expenses, for the LIFE of every pet in the program, just like Luna.
Luna was paired with her Veteran, Shirley, in 2022. Shirley had recently lost her soul cat after two short years together, and we knew she needed a special companion to help fill the gaping hole left in her heart. So, along came this spunky little kitten, Luna.
We surprised Shirley with Luna at Humane Society for Hamilton County (Indiana)'s Tinsel & Tails Holiday Petacular in November 2022. Shirley took Luna home and since then, she's grown up and has remained Shirley's best friend.
Your support makes pairs like Luna and Shirley possible. Donate today at bit.ly/DonatePHV.

We're deeply touched and honored that our friends and sponsors of Pets Healing Vets, MISO, have chosen to volunteer their time with us during a difficult time following the passing of one of their beloved colleagues. Their dedication and commitment to supporting our cause, even amidst their own grief, is a testament to their strength the bonds they share. Their selflessness serves as an inspiration to us all, reminding us of the power of compassion and unity in times of adversity.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to MISO for their unwavering support. ๐พ๐บ๐ธ

โค๏ธโ๐ฉน Baby needs your help โค๏ธโ๐ฉน
This is Baby after a seizure on Thursday...she's lost the light in her eyes. She's been struggling with seizures and other neurological symptoms, which is making it difficult for her to enjoy life. This has been an incredibly difficult week for her Veteran, Victor, who adopted Baby just over a year ago.
Baby had a neurology appointment today and has an undiagnosed cerebellar disease. Further diagnostics are currently being done, but it's likely that Baby will need an MRI for a proper diagnosis and treatment plan. Her medical care will be incredibly costly, and Pets Healing Vets will fund 100% of her care.
So, WE NEED YOUR HELP! Help the light return to her eyes and donate to Baby's care at bit.ly/DonatePHV.
Check out this match made in Heaven ๐พ๐บ๐ธ
Vietnam Veteran, George, was matched with Star in 2019. Shortly after, he tragically lost his cat and Star was beside herself. So, a few months later, in came Spirit โ almost as big as, if not larger than Star! George had no idea that both Star and Spirit would not only be emotional support animals for him, but also each other.
Behind the Scenes of Pets Healing Vets ๐พ๐บ๐ธ
Each year, we ask our participating Veterans to complete a survey about the program. When we received Emilyโs feedback, who was matched with Caesar in 2021, our hearts began to burst. Her testimonial truly highlights the life-saving impact the program has for so many Hoosier Veterans who are struggling.
Thank you for giving me my best friend! He has changed my life so much and I like to think that I have changed his life. Without this program and the staff, I donโt know where with of us (Caesar or myself) would be today.
Before my boy, I would be up at three in the morning checking my windows and doors. Now I donโt do that. My anxiety and depression are so much better. Caesar knows when to stick to me like glue. I promised him when I adopted him that he would forever be taken care of, never have to worry about someone hurting or being mean to him, that he would never want for anything.
He is the best thing that has happened to me and Iโm so incredibly thankful to not only have him, but to have you all in my life!

Pepper (formerly known as Luna) had her first spa day at Canine Cloud Nine and is so fresh and so clean! Thank you to our talented friend, Amber, at the salon who gave Pepper a much-needed makeover.
We're so excited to share that MISO Energy has renewed their Pets Healing Vets sponsorship! Their ongoing support has been instrumental in helping support Hoosier Veterans suffering from PTSD and TBI. In their spare time, you can find their employees at the shelter helping us maintain our beautiful facility.
A huge thank you to everyone at MISO for being an integral part of our mission. Here's to another year of working together to save lives at both ends of the leash ๐บ๐ธ๐พ
We've been keeping a secret...
Our second match of the year, Echo and Joe, will be reunited following Echo's training at Paws & Play Dog Resort & Training Center in a week! Echo is excelling in his basic obedience training in order to prepare to go home with his Veteran, Joe. His trainer, Morgan, has worked with him on leash walking, basic commands, and learned that Echo loves other canine friends! He has also become a yoga expert and perfected his downward dog ๐พ๐บ๐ธ
Meet Justin Morseth โ the inspiration for Pets Healing Vets ๐บ๐ธ๐พ
Justin's return from the front lines of Iraq left him suffering from PTSD and TBI, like many of his military brothers and sisters. His struggles became unbearable but fortunately his dog at the time, Samson, saved him from himself.
His wife, Megan, saw the healing power of pets to comfort, connect and pull someone back from the edge first-hand. She contacted over 50 animal welfare organizations throughout Indiana to see if one would be interested in establishing a program to support Veterans like Justin in need of an emotional support animal. Only one organization responded to Meganโฆand the rest is history.
Over a decade later, Justin now helps us save lives at both ends of the leash by advocating for other Veterans who may be struggling from the same invisible wounds.
Read Justin's full story at PetsHealingVets.com.
Yesterday we saw Sailor for her annual vaccines and she was the perfect patient! In addition to providing training, supplies, and medical care for all Pets Healing Vets furry companions, each pet is seen once per year to ensure they're in good health and to stay current on vaccinations.
Sailor and Jack came all the way from Elkhart, as the program serves all Hoosier Veterans. She was given a clean bill of health - which was no surprise since she and Jack walk 25 miles per week!
Today is their FIRST Gotcha Day ๐พ๐บ๐ธ
Just a spoonful of Sugar...
On this day five years ago, David's life got much sweeter when he was paired with Sugar. David is an Army Veteran who struggled with both mental and physical challenges as a result of his time in the military, and Sugar is a dog who had been discarded by her owners not only once, but twice. Sugar was known to be fearful of many things, and especially of men โ but she saw the goodness in David, and her world became a lot brighter. The duo has been inseparable since.
As with many dogs in the program, it has become more costly each year to provide care for Sugar in her old age. Last year, she was diagnosed with kidney disease, which we have been managing with a special diet, B12 injections, and other specialty care. This is costly โ but we are dedicated to giving her the best care possible so that she can live a long, happy life with David.
Make a donation in honor of Sugar now at bit.ly/DonatePHV. Your donations to Pets Healing Vets help Sugar and the 41 other animals currently in the program ๐บ๐ธ๐พ
Happy Gotcha Day, Mr. Sampson & Daija!
Three years ago, Daija came to the Humane Society for Hamilton County (Indiana) in search of a companion. What we didn't know at the time was that Daija would fall in love with one of our hardest to place dogs โ Mr. Sampson โ who had been waiting seven months for a home. And to this day, they are still one of our favorite stories.
Mr. Sampson has his own unique behavioral challenges and quirks...but we knew that didn't make him any less deserving of a home. He has now been thriving in his home for three years with the support of Pets Healing Vets and with Daija's dedication. Watching them grow and learn alongside each other has been truly remarkable, and we couldn't think of a better person for Mr. Sampson.
So, please join us in congratulating them on three years together ๐บ๐ธ๐พ
