FIM Capitol Theatre, Flint, MI
Bookings: https://tickets.thefim.org/nao/10580
For the September concert, Maestro Michael Ibrahim plans to bridge the gap between Western and Arab classical music through his own innovative arrangements. The NAO's Takht Ensemble, featuring traditional Arab instruments like the oud, nay, and qanun, will collaborate with a group from the FSO. Together, they will present a unique, Eastern-inspired interpretation of Mozart's 30th Symphony, along with a Western opera performed in Arabic. Additionally, the Takht Ensemble will perform several Arab compositions that Ibrahim has reinterpreted with a Western perspective in mind.
Joining Maestro Ibrahim and the Takht Ensemble will be vocalists Lubana Al Quntar and Usama Baalbaki.

Flint Symphony Orchestra Ensembles
September 27, 2024
FIM Capitol Theatre, Flint, Michigan
Prepare to be swept away by the seamless intertwining of Arab and Eastern musical traditions, creating a symphonic experience that transcends boundaries and unites cultures through the power of music.
For the second year in a row, led by NAO music director Michael Ibrahim, FSO and NAO ensembles will collaborate on the stage of the historic Capitol Theatre to create an eclectic evening of musical traditions that truly span the globe and bridge cultures as they present East Meets West.
Arab music — featuring the rich textures of the Oud, Qanun, and multiple vocalists — blends seamlessly with FSO strings, brass and percussion. The familiar melodies of Mozart and Bizet will be intertwined with the vibrant, exotic accents of Arabic language and music, creating a breathtakingly original experience showcasing the adaptability and harmony of different musical expressions.
FIM Flint Symphony Orchestra is currently looking for talented violinists to join our orchestra! Positions are available in both the first and second violin sections. Violin auditions will take place on October 11 at 2pm at FIM Whiting Auditorium.

Back in February 2024, we teamed up with the Genesee County Jail’s IGNITE program to offer music therapy sessions to a few eager participants (after country music star Jelly Roll had visited the jail and noted that music would be a great addition.) Now, FIM is also offering private lessons and has just graduated the first classes of recording and songwriting students who took advantage of the brand new Jailhouse Music Studio, inspired by Jelly Roll and powered by UAW!
We’re proud to have been involved in this transformative program, and we look forward to seeing how much we can continue to learn and grow alongside Sheriff Swanson and all those involved in IGNITE!
