The Wet Mountain Valley Historical Association presents Gary Ziegler and Courtney Miller to discuss the “Goodnight – Beckwith Connection.” Gary Ziegler and Courtney Miller will present what they believe to be the facts while telling the life story of these legends. For many years, the Beckwith family operated one of the largest cattle operations in Colorado right here in the Wet Mountain Valley. The Beckwiths purchased their longhorns from Charles Goodnight for most of those years. Charles Goodnight was already a legend when he established the Rock Creek Ranch between Pueblo and Wetmore. He and Oliver Loving had been driving longhorn cattle from Texas to Colorado and the trail they took became known as the Goodnight-Loving trail. Local historians have debated the connection between the Beckwiths and Goodnight, some claiming the Beckwiths rode with Goodnight on a cattle drive from Texas. The event is free and open to the public.

Come join us tomorrow at 1:00pm for the "Panel Presentation about our Superfund Site".
The panel will consist of members of Colorado Citizens Against ToxicWaste (CCAT) as well as a documentary filmmaker discussing the local Lincoln Park – Cotter Superfund Site and its 40-year history.
The program is free and open to the public and will touch on topics in relation to the Superfund Site and the cleanup process.

CCAT has curated a visual history of the Cotter Corporation site, including the timeline of the development of the use of the atom to generate electrical power, and its use as a weapon of war.

The mission of CCAT has always been to educate the community living with this Superfund site. Community members will have an opportunity to comment and ask questions about the impact of this ongoing “geologic feature” on the health of the citizens, economic development, and desirability of living in Fremont County.
