William Shipley is an active individual who plays soccer, runs and keeps his dog healthy by taking long walks. Because of his desire to keep moving, William put his muscle tension on the back burner. He experienced weakness, pain and discomfort in his neck, back and throughout his body. When the issues started affecting his normal daily activities, he sought .

To find relief, William looked online to for the "highest-rated physical therapy location" in the area. He scheduled an appointment and began his work with Center Manager and Physical Therapist Helen Molinares.

"At the beginning, I was in constant discomfort and nothing could help," he said. "I just wanted to achieve my goal of any improvement."

Helen and William worked hard on his physical therapy plan to get him back to the activities he loves most. Part of Helen's plan included dry needling, which provided immediate tension relief as well as some release with his exercises.

"Helen is the best and has a fantastic report with patients," he shared. "She seems to care about the patient journey."

William has been motivated by his progress and success. He reports that his body is better and he can now walk upright without pain. We love to hear this, William, and wish you continued success on the last part of your rehabilitation journey. Thank you for seeking care with our team.

At our Baylor Scott & White Institute for Rehabilitation Dallas Day Neuro Program, we believe in rebuilding life skills.

Recently, occupational therapist Jenna McDaniel realized she had three patients on her team that wanted to get back to golfing. To foster community reintegration and participation in recreational activities, she organized a local golf range outing to address their goals for coordination, visual perception, and reaction time. John Bannister, one of Day Neuro’s rehabilitation techs (and golfer himself) helped to implement recommendations and encourage patients to get back into their leisure activities safely and effectively. Way to go, everyone!

Jordan White was a patient at our Cedar Park East center in Austin from 2018 to 2023, where he received care from physical therapist Brittany Chesser following multiple surgeries on his right leg.

Born with his right leg shorter than his left, Jordan has undergone 20 operations, including ongoing leg-lengthening procedures that required post-operative physical therapy. Over the years, Brittany has witnessed Jordan's perseverance and determination as he overcame many obstacles, emerging stronger after each surgery.

Now, at 15 years old, Jordan is set to represent the United States in Paris at the end of August as the youngest-ever US Paralympic archer, competing as one of six members of the United States Paralympic Archery team. Recently, Brittany had the privilege of celebrating Jordan's achievements at an event honoring his incredible journey to Paris. Way to go, Jordan!

Kimberly Elvington has been living with knee pain for 20 years after she fell and shattered her kneecap. She underwent surgery several times and put off a knee replacement as long as she could until, eventually, she couldn't wait any longer.

Kimberly chose our McKinney - Red Bud center, working with physical therapist James Venhuizen for both prehab and post-operative therapy. "We really connected," Kimberly said. "He cares about what he's doing for you. He wants you to get healthy. He's compassionate."

Just one week after her surgery, Kimberly could already walk straight and put weight on her new knee. She attributes these milestones to the work she and James put in before and after her surgery. "I'm getting better every day," she said. "I've done a lot of physical therapy in the past and it's never been as good as this has been."

Now, Kimberly is excited to help her granddaughter ride a bike and keep up with her energetic six-year-old grandson. Congratulations, Kimberly!

Alan Armentrout had a spinal cord herniation through the dura mater requiring surgery. The spinal cord is a bundle of nerves running down your back, protected by a tough covering called the dura mater. If part of the spinal cord pushes through this covering, it's called spinal cord herniation.

In Alan’s case, the surgery resulted in loss of use of his lower extremities. He was recommended to Baylor Scott & White Institute for Rehabilitation - Outpatient Therapy in Grapevine to help him regain his mobility and independence. He shared these words about his experience:

“Everything is upbeat and positive here. It is open, doesn't feel crowded, and I hear joy amongst everybody when I am here. I don't hear despair and I have never heard a therapist give a negative to anybody.

I think I have the most wonderful therapist in the world - highly recommended: [physical therapist] Shantha Nithiananda. She is always challenging me, she is upbeat, encouraging, and well-prepared. When I leave at the end of the day, I know that she has pushed me to my limits so I can see change and growth each time I come.

[Therapy aide] Addyson Trammell is delight to be around. She is always willing to help. Positive and encouraging.

I have good instructions, my therapist[s] explain the biomechanics of what I am doing so that I can understanding what I am working on and how to do it. I get lots of time to practice, and the clinic has the equipment I need. It's just been a positive experience with energetic therapists who are keeping me moving forward towards my goal.

The most important goal I have is to walk independently. I have not reached it - but I am gaining ground every week.”

Way to go, Alan!

Betty Sims was referred to Baylor Scott & White Institute of Rehabilitation Outpatient Therapy by her rheumatologist. Betty chose our Carrollton Sandy Lake center, where she wanted to improve her core stabilization, functional movement, strength, posture and range of motion.

Here’s what Betty had to say about her experience:

“Shout out to the best physical therapist Brandon Galloway! [He] was extremely knowledgeable, caring and focused on ensuring that each exercise in the treatment plan targeted the muscles needed to meet my individualized goals. He would demonstrate the exercise, ensure that I understood how to perform the exercises safely and effectively. The exercises progressed as I gained more strength. Each session started with a short warm up. Brandon then provided interesting, creative, and individualized exercises specifically designed to increase functional movements, improve muscle strength, core stabilization, balance and coordinated mobility.

Initially, I was skeptical that I would be able to see improvement in the allocated weeks that were estimated for treatment. Within two sessions, I started seeing improvement. To my delight, I exceeded my goals and accomplished more than I thought would be possible. I returned to a riding 2-wheel bike along with a home exercise program to continue my core strengthening.

[Patient service specialist] Christine Eastman is the receptionist [and] is courteous and friendly. She greets everyone with a smile and goes out of her way to make sure guests are comfortable. The center is well equipped, bright with natur[al] light and clean. All of the staff are exceptional. If you are serious about improving your health, this is the place to go!”

Margie 'Cookie' McCall had a stroke when she awoke from a medical procedure. She spent seven days in Clements Hospital and 10 days in Zale Lipshy Pavilion’s inpatient rehabilitation unit.

Margie was then referred to Baylor Scott & White Institute of Rehabilitation (BSWIR) Outpatient Therapy - Grapevine by her social worker at Zale. Conveniently located near her home, she said of the center that it is "clean, welcoming and the equipment is great.”

At BSWIR-Grapevine, she worked with physical therapist Mariana Morales-Najera.

"Mariana is absolutely the best there could ever be and she is just perfect for my needs,” said Cookie. “I am now able to shower unsupervised, I don’t need a walker or a cane, don’t need my AFO [ankle-foot orthosis] anymore. I am walking on my own now.”

“I can also manage things in the kitchen, which I wasn’t able to at first,” she said. “I am also driving again. Overall great staff!"

Melody Morrison had two total knee replacements this year. She was referred to Baylor Scott & White Institute of Rehabilitation – Outpatient Therapy (BSW-OP) Argyle center by two colleagues who also had total knee replacements. She shared these thoughts with us about her experience:

“I had 2 total knee replacements (TKR): one in February and one in May of 2024. I needed physical therapy for recovery. I was referred to BSW-OP by two others who also had total knee replacements. BSW-OP was highly recommended by them.

The center is conveniently located. The atmosphere is calm and relatively quiet. It has ample room and equipment; however, you don't feel like you are in a fitness gym which is appealing to me. The therapists are extremely knowledgeable, cordial, professional and compassionate in the care of their clients.

[Physical therapist] Viral "Vic" Patel is a rare find from what I've determined from people who have gone to other outpatient therapy centers near me. He has firmly yet compassionately helped me to achieve excellent ROM [range of motion] and strengthening in my recovery. He is very sincere in his approach and gives you 100% of his attention. He provides an explanation of not only how to do the exercises but also the reasons for same. I was also having some IT Band issues and he tailored my treatment to fit that need as well as conquer the issues. I believe he has truly helped me in my recovery.

Even prior to warming up for the session, Vic Patel asks how I'm doing, what my pain level is and how he can help me that session. He will immediately assess me and then gear the session to my needs along with achieving the final goal of my recovery. As I'm performing the exercises, he monitors me and verbally asks how I'm handling same. I have learned so much from his guidance and expertise. At the end of each session, he ices my knee. He has also used the TENS unit when I've had the IT Band issues and/or muscle spasms.

[My] goals have been achieved. I can now traverse stairs, take long walks, can stand for a couple of hours, and have great ROM.

My legs are actually working together for the first time in years. I can now do more physically due to the excellent guidance of my therapist. Through the compassion, attention and professional expertise of Vic Patel, I have had an excellent outcome from my therapy! The two other therapists are also great. I highly recommend BSW Outpatient Therapy in Argyle, TX.”

Cheers to Melody! These kind sentiments were courtesy of Melody Morrison regarding the treatment she received at our center in Argyle. Get back to what you love by calling us at 888.722.9567 or go to https://bit.ly/3L4u8Yl.
