Friends and families,
We have about two inches of fresh snow on the ground out here in southern Fort Carson! Our toes may be cold this morning, but spirits are high as we continue some excellent squad level training and prepare for live fires. Our cold weather training from December is being put to the test here at The Mountain Post and thanks to our very own Dakota Troop, hot show is being served twice daily! Our guys are killing it out here!

On this day of national community service, we honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s legacy of compassion, justice and equality for all.

Dr. King dedicated his life to a dream of equality and challenged the nation to not judge people by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.

Team,
Excellent job in doing our part to help turn the trend downward. The percentage is less than half of what it was two weeks ago!!! As we get ready to come off of Holiday Block Leave (HBL), please ensure you are reviewing the FCCO Leave and Business Rules on the Fort Carson website. If you traveled to an area that is now considered a high risk zone, notify your chain of command and receive further instructions on how to properly sign in with staff duty and your next steps for returning to work. We do not wish to see the positivity trend turn upward after your well deserved time off. Continue to wear your mask 100% of the time while on and off post, wash your hands, and do not be afraid to get tested if you believe you are displaying all the symptoms of COVID-19!

Pipe freeze warning

With winter weather here, temperatures can drop below freezing suddenly.

Significant facility damage is possible if appropriate actions are not taken. Facility managers, building occupants and unit leadership are asked to ensure the following:
- Ensure all windows and exterior doors are closed.
- Keep all heating systems on even in unoccupied buildings (do not turn off any units). Set any self-adjustable thermostats to at least 55 degrees (barracks set to 60 degrees).
- Building occupants can call 719-526-5345, the Directorate of public Works (DPW) operations and maintenance contractor 24/7 service order desk, if their buildings are not heating properly.
- If there are any busted or leaking pipes noticed, call in a service order immediately to the DPW operations and maintenance contractor at 719-526-5345.

The 14-day average COVID-19 positivity rate in our area is trending downward for the second day in a row!!! Keep up the great work doing our part in helping the community! As we approach Holiday Block Leave (HBL), we encourage you to keep in mind all state and government restrictions, especially the limit of persons per household allowed to gather. Have fun over the holiday, but stay safe!
