CSU AABP

The American Association of Bovine Practitioners is composed of veterinarians interested in bovine medicine.

It was founded in 1965 as a "not-for-profit" organization and has grown to a membership of approximately 6000 veterinarians. Most of the members are from the United States, but we have approximately 500 Canadian members and 200 members from other countries. The United States is divided into 11 geographical districts, and Canada is divided into two districts. We are affiliated with the American Veterinary Medical Association and the World Association for Buiatrics.

We hope that everyone is enjoying the start to their summer! (Sorry Fourth Years)
While summer is an excellent time to rest and recharge on your journey through school, we want to encourage everyone to try and set up some time with either a cattle veterinarian or a cattle producer.

Both groups are extremely knowledgable and in our experience are more than happy to share their knowledge and teach you no matter your background.

If you are a practitioner or a producer and want to get involved please reach out to us at [email protected]

Happy Earth Day! Our hard working Ranchers and Farmers are the original environmentalists.

Based on an assessment of data by the American Farm Bureau Federation, the Agricultural Sector between 2021 and 2022* there has been a
- 12-million-metric-ton reduction in greenhouse gas emissions;
-2.1% reduction in livestock GHG emissions;
-1.7% reduction in crop cultivation emissions; and
-1.2% reduction in fuel combustion emissions.

The article can be accessed here: https://www.drovers.com/news/beef-production/agriculture-emissions-fall-lowest-levels-10-years

Livestock Veterinarians play a key role in helping animals and their care takers become more efficient. We also play a key role in educating the public about agriculture. I would encourage everyone to not take either role lightly.

There is a lot of confusing information out there about cattle and the environment. We advise that factual sources should always be consulted when dealing with topics like this. Some that we recommend are listed below.

If you are involved in agriculture I encourage you to make one post this week sharing facts and good news about it! Remember the internet is the only knowledge some people have of agriculture, seek to educate them.

Dear friend,
Your dreams are worth chasing. They are worth pursuing. They are worth investing in. Bet on yourself. Feel worthy of success…

And don’t forget to sit in the pen and reflect on how far you’ve come 🖤

In 2018 I wrote a couple big goals on my board.
1. Pay of my student loans in 5 years (paid off in 2022) ✅
2. Workout 3x / week (this goes in spurts but most of the time I meet it. This is more for my mental health)
3. Build a cattle barn in 5-7 years. (Objective was to build a barn and THEN I could actually go buy cows. Instead we bought a pasture and grew our herd from 3 to 100 +🤯) ✅✅✅

Write your big, crazy, scary goals down and watch them manifest 🖤

Check out these awesome AABP members who attended the annual Larimar County Stockgrowers meeting last night! Go Rams!

01/20/2023

Fact Friday!!! Did you know that as cattle walk in pasture the pressure from their hooves aerate the soil allowing for better crop growth! Additionally, they help drive seeds into the ground and fertilize it with manure! Talk about efficiency!

01/17/2023

Welcome Back Herd!!! We hope you had a fabulous winter break and can’t wait to share all of the exciting events we have this next semester including Nut Fry!! Stay tuned 🐄

11/18/2022

Let’s get moooving on the biggest AABP event - our Annual Nut Fry! Please share with your family and friends that our 45th annual nut fry will be April 2nd, 2023 this coming year! We can’t wait to see you all there!!!

If you would like to donate we will accept any auction items (of $100 value) and or any value of event funding donations. We can’t thank our donors enough for making this event and education opportunities for our members happen. Please contact us at [email protected]!

⭐️Officer Spotlight⭐️

Meet our Media Manager: Jasmine Blattner!

Jasmine is originally from Bradenton, Florida where she found her love for cattle through 4H and FFA. She grew up in the city and would travel to care for her cattle until high school where she was able to keep them at the school. Primarily, Jasmine showed dairy cattle of all ages and a few beef breeding heifers here and there. Jasmine graduated from Colorado State University with a B.S. in Animal Science, and is now a second-year veterinary student. Following graduation, Jasmine hopes to work in a mixed practice with small animal ER medicine and a mobile service for production animals.

⭐️Officer Spotlight!!⭐️

Meet Jaylynn Tortorelli our palpation team co-coordinator!

Jaylynn grew up on a ranch in southeast Colorado extending into northern New Mexico. It was because of this that Jaylynn set a goal to pursue large animal veterinary medicine and why she is an officer in AABP. She earned her B.S. in animal science at West Texas A and M University in Canyon, Texas and is now a second year veterinary student at CSU. Upon completion of vet school, Jaylynn wants to open her own large animal practice in southern Colorado.
