Your metabolism isnโ€™t just about burning energy; itโ€™s about producing it!

Metabolism encompasses how effectively you convert your food (calories) into adenosine triphosphate (ATP).

ATP is the energy currency that powers your body.

To produce ENERGY (ATP), you need:

-Fuel (carbs or fat)

-Micronutrients (vitamins and minerals)

-Oxygen

-Thyroid function

Additionally, good digestion and regulated blood sugar are essential for effective energy production.
When you have ample fuel, nutrients, oxygen, and thyroid function, you produce an abundance of ENERGY (ATP).

This energy runs the systems of your body, leading to a high basal metabolic rate.

When your body produces ample energy, you feel great, your systems work efficiently, and you experience no symptoms (good sleep, no PMS, warm body, good digestion, happiness).

However, when your energy production is compromised (due to insufficient fuel, the wrong fuel, lack of nutrients, low oxygen, low thyroid function, poor digestion, or poor blood sugar responses), you have LESS energy to run your bodyโ€™s systems.

This results in feeling tired, and unwell, and experiencing various symptoms (fatigue, anxiety, depression, weight gain, poor sleep, PMS, hot flashes, low libido).

Energy issues go beyond energy IN vs. energy OUT.

How WELL you PRODUCE energy (ATP) is equally, if not more, important.

Do you want to know how my client JS lost 10.2 pounds in just 10 weeks without giving up the foods he loves and still enjoying a beer?

Let me share a secret: we didn't eliminate or reduce carbs.

Instead, we used them to fuel his body for optimal energy.

Now, when the ship is smoothly sailing, and everything is as it should be, you wouldn't think of jumping into the ocean, right?

Your body feels the same way about its energy sources.

When there's enough sugar (our body's preferred fuel), it sees no reason to switch to its backup systems.

But what if the ship hits a rough patch, and there's no more sugar on board?

Your body smartly switches to its emergency backup systems, like burning protein and fat for energy.

This switch is a survival mechanism, a life vest that keeps you afloat when your primary energy source is scarce.

It's a testament to our body's incredible resilience and adaptability.

However, choosing to jump into the ocean with a life vest when you could be safe on the ship doesn't make much sense.

Likewise, forcing your body to rely on its backup systems by intentionally avoiding sugar, when it's not necessary, might not be the best choice for your health.

It's about understanding and respecting the natural wisdom of your body.

So, what's the takeaway here?

Balance and listening to your body are key.

Our bodies are incredible machines, capable of adapting to various situations.

But just because it can survive on its backup systems doesn't mean it's the best or healthiest option in the long run.

Eating a balanced diet that includes all macronutrients - carbohydrates, proteins, and fats is not just about feeding your body; it's about respecting and taking care of the magnificent vessel that carries you through life.
