Recently it was announced to the NSU Shepard Broad College of Law that the professors and faculty voted to award me with the coveted Stephanie Aleong Impact Award.

The Stephanie Aleong Impact Award is one of the school’s most valued awards, as it recognizes professors and students for their contributions to the College of Law. The award is named in honor of Professor Stephanie Aleong, who passed away from cancer in 2008 at the young age of 36. During her time at the Shepard Broad College of Law, Professor Aleong was a well-respected member of the NSU Law community who was known for the compassion and dedication she showed to her students and colleagues.

The Stephanie Aleong Impact Award is unique in that the student recipients are voted on by the faculty at the College of Law and are presented to the students that reflect the inspiring qualities possessed by Professor Aleong. The second recipients of the award are selected by the student recipients and are awarded to the faculty members that have had the most impact on their law school careers.

Words cannot describe how shocked I am that I was not only nominated by my favorite professor, but that I was subsequently chosen by the faculty. I did not know I was nominated. But, once the president of SBA called to inform me of the news, I immediately thought of Professor Jani Maurer because she has had the most significant impact on me and my law school experience.

I am so honored to experience this process with her and to be acknowledged beside her. I never anticipated having such a memorable experience during my 3L year. I definitely didn't anticipate this as a 1L.

A profound thank you to everyone who acknowledged and voted for me. I am forever humbled by such an honorable award.

Posted • Do you know that in Florida it's now illegal to have unpermitted protests that block roads? Violence and public destruction were already harshly punishable by law before . This law was unnecessary and meant to silence Black voices. Now we're seeing why any infringement on free speech affects everyone.

And now that HB1 is the law of the state land, it's important that we know our rights. Swipe ⬅️ for a guide by and learn more at the link in our bio.

🇨🇺🇭🇹✊🏾 We strongly support Cuban protestors. And Haitians. And Black Lives Matter. And everyone’s right to protest without fear.

I’ve been seeing a lot of discussion recently about how Cuba is a sanctuary for . Reality couldn’t be further from that.

As Cuba takes to the streets demanding liberation from 62 years of dictatorship, repression, lack of basic necessities and human rights; I cannot sit idly by and not be concerned about how much misinformation is out there regarding this issue.

As a result, I compiled a list of peer-reviewed sources that go deep into the Afrocuban experience in Cuba.

Happy Thursday! To continue our celebration during Caribbean Heritage Month, please give a round of applause to our former Vice President Kahalia Solano, JD, who graduated Magna Cum Laude! She is currently crushing it while studying for the BAR. Once she gets licensed, which we have no doubt that she will, Kahalia plans on taking the UBE.

Kahalia, we wish you nothing but the best. You are strong, intelligent and continue to be a role model to all of us. We know you got this!
