Wyoming’s Hadley Thompson is a seasoned professional at the Hooey Jr. Patriot—attending for the fifth year in a row and taking the 19 & Under Goat Tying Last Chance Qualifier Jackpot Championship on Wednesday, March 6th.
Tying three head in 21.06 seconds with a collar flanking style, Thompson came away with a total of $1,475 won. The success was foreshadowing for the rest of the week in the 19 & Under Goat Tying, where she advanced through the semifinal and competed on short round Sunday. At 16-years-old, Thompson is younger than most in the 19 & Under division, meaning she has time to perfect her craft and gather up more money in the goat tying.
“My whole life revolves around rodeo,” Thompson said. “I started riding when I could walk.”
Although she admitted breakaway roping has her heart, Thompson competes in goat tying, pole bending, barrel racing and team roping, as well.

Sam Lewis became the first-ever winner of the Roping.com 19 & Under Tie-Down Roping Invitational at the Hooey Junior Patriot Thursday, March 7, 2024.
The 18-year-old from Amarillo, Texas, pocketed $12,500 in the $10,000-added roping between the rounds and aggregate. Being able to take home over $10,000 on a Thursday night is exciting for Lewis.
“It means a lot because you don’t get very many opportunities like this,” Lewis said. “You can either go to these and get some experience, or you go straight to the big leagues. It’s mind blowing.”

Jesus Leyva and Matt Leavitt had never met before they won the Resistol Young Guns Junior Patriot #10.5 Last Chance Thursday, March 7, 2024.
The high schoolers from Azie and Pleasonton, Texas, were draw partners and took home the $21,100 win after roping four steers in 30.95 seconds.
“We’re going to be roping a lot from now on,” Leavitt said with a laugh.
Leyva and Leavitt have both been to The Patriot before—Leyva just once and Leavitt three times—but this was their first time to cash in. The opportunity to rope for big money brings them back.
“There’s a lot of roping and lots of money,” Leyva said.

Haiden Thompson’s week started out with a dominant showing in the 19 & Under Breakaway Semifinals. Thompson entered the semifinals with the maximum two entries—a drop in the bucket of more than 300 entries. Despite the odds, she went on to rope in 1.86 and 1.91 seconds in Round 1, winning No. 1 and No. 3 for a total of $8,000. In Round 2 she roped in 1.75 and 1.79 to go one–two, winning $8,500. She rounded out her semifinals haul with a No. 1, No. 2 finish in the average for $8,500, bringing her semifinals total to $25,000.
