Experiencing increased lower back pain upon waking in the morning can result from several factors. One common cause is poor sleeping posture or an unsupportive mattress, leading to spinal misalignment and muscle strain overnight. Additionally, conditions like degenerative disc disease or spinal arthritis can cause stiffness and discomfort upon waking. Engaging in gentle stretching or low-impact exercises before bedtime and investing in a supportive mattress can help alleviate morning back pain.

A herniated disc, also known as a slipped or ruptured disc, occurs when the soft inner core of a spinal disc pushes through a crack in the tougher outer layer. This condition can lead to compression of nearby nerves, resulting in symptoms such as sharp or shooting pain, numbness, tingling, or weakness in the affected area, often in the back or neck. Herniated discs commonly occur due to age-related wear and tear, but they can also result from injury or trauma. Treatment options for herniated discs range from conservative measures like rest, physical therapy, and medication to more invasive interventions such as injections or surgery, depending on the severity of symptoms and the individual's overall health.
