Dr. Steve Meyers' Regenerative Orthopedic Case of the Week:
Patellar tendinopathy with partial intra-substance tear.
PM is a 30 year old male with right anterior knee pain. Pain onset 1 year ago playing basketball. Minimal improvement with physical therapy. MRI showed significant patellar tendinopathy with small split tear. After discussing treatment options, he chose PRP (platelet rich plasma) injection. During the PRP treatment, as I injected the tendon (bright needle comes in from the upper right side) , the split tear (black defect) can be seen expanding and contracting as the PRP is delivered into the area! PRP and ultrasound imaging have truly changed the game when it comes to treating orthopedic issues. I've been performing PRP treatments since 2007 and began using musculoskeletal ultrasound in 2009.

Congrats to Dr. Meyers on your upcoming conference presentation on Regenerative Orthopedics for meniscus tears.
Excited to be presenting my research data on treating isolated meniscus tears with micro-fragmented adipose tissue injections at the Interventional Orthobiologics Foundation annual meeting. At an average of 16 months follow-up, VAS pain improved 87% and Total WOMAC score improved 90%. There were no serious side effects reported.
