In the Montessori method, bead work is a fundamental part of teaching mathematical concepts. The bead materials, such as the bead chains, bead bars, and bead squares, are used to visually and tangibly represent numbers and mathematical operations. For example:
• Bead Chains: These are used to teach counting, skip counting, and multiplication. The child can physically manipulate the beads, helping them understand the concept of counting in sequences and the relationship between numbers.
• Bead Bars: These are used to introduce the concept of addition, subtraction, and even multiplication and division. Each bar represents a specific quantity, helping children grasp the idea of number quantities.
• Golden Beads: These beads are used to introduce the decimal system and basic operations like addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division with larger numbers.
The hands-on nature of bead work helps children internalize mathematical concepts by moving from concrete to abstract understanding, making it a core element of Montessori math education.

Encouraging independence and building confidence one step at a time! Montessori education empowers children to learn and grow through hands-on experiences.
In the Montessori method, learning to count goes beyond memorizing numbers. Children use hands-on materials like number rods, sandpaper numerals, and the spindle box to explore the concept of quantity and number sense. This tactile approach helps them understand the 'why' behind the numbers, making math more meaningful and fun. Unlike traditional methods, Montessori encourages self-paced, discovery-based learning that builds a strong mathematical foundation. Watch our little learners in action as they uncover the wonders of numbers!
