Third Thursday Fort Worth!
Come to South Main in Fort Worth and stop by Amphibian Stage at 120 S Main! 5pm-8pm Thursday April 18
It’s been a while since I’ve been able to post anything. Normally I post my artwork, but I have been finding that the iPhone camera is more capable than I imagined. This is an iPhone photo of some wilted flowers that were just sitting on our kitchen counter. After a little touch up, I was amazed at the results.
David Crosby 1941-2023
I had the great pleasure to photograph his concert at the Kerrville Folk Festival. This painting was created from those photos.

Fort Worth, Texas — Art Room presents the group exhibition Between Now and Then, featuring the work of Dallas-Fort Worth-based artists Jessica Baldivieso, Ross Graphix, Molly Magill, and Vance Wingate. The show is on view at the Fort Worth Community Arts Center from September 10 through October 30, 2021.
Between Now and Then was curated by Art Room Co-Founder/Chief Advisor Katie Murray. Murray was introduced to the artists’ most contemporary works from their recent inclusion in Art Room’s exhibition Now | Contemporary 2021. Murray writes about her selections, “Visually, each artist has a unique sensibility in their styles, but the common thread running between the works is the elevated design. The layers and sense of color attract the viewer, while the composition and details leave you lingering. After researching each artist, I get a sense of strong professionalism, which also leads to the higher quality of their work.”
The Fort Worth Community Arts Center is open to the public and will host an opening reception in conjunction with the FWADA Fall Gallery Night on September 11, 2021, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
Volunteers
10x20in Watercolor
by Ross Reitzammer
“Everybody can be great because anybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject, and your verb agree to serve…. You don’t have to know the second theory of thermodynamics in physics to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.”
~Martin Luther King, Jr.
This is the first painting of a set representing volunteers. These people in the community come together to give their time and compassion to serve those in need.
"Pointless"
16x20 Watercolor painting
by Ross Reitzammer
"... since that everything has a point, then i must have one too."
~ by Harry Nillson (The Point)
From BlurtItOut.org
We need to cut ourselves some slack. We are not pointless, and our life is not pointless. Our unrealistic expectations of ourselves can leave us feeling useless and pointless because we never feel as though we're enough. The contributions we make to society feel pointless because other people have contributed more. But other's contributions do not invalidate our contributions. Other people's achievements don't invalidate our own achievements. We are enough. Our life is not pointless.

Now Showing at South Barbershop!
Yes, a barbershop! My gallery of choice! Not everyone will have the time or inclination to go to an established gallery, but they will need their hair cut! This is my community, and I love having the opportunity to exhibit in the places where the community will be. I paint people I see in the community for the people in the community to see. Thank you, Laleh, for allowing me to show my art in your shop.
Laleh Rezaie supports our local artists by showcasing a different artist each month. South Barbershop is one of the many businesses that participate in celebrating artists through events like Third Thursday art walk and Southside's ArtsGoggle.
Third Thursday is a monthly art crawl held in the Near Southside Arts district hosted by galleries and local businesses. It is designed to give local artists more opportunities for exposure and allow patrons a chance to shop local.
I first met Laleh at HopFusion (our local craft brewery and taproom).
Before she had her shop, she would cut hair in the taproom. She was a pay-what-you-can barber then, and once she cut my hair, I would not see anyone else! She is one of the best barbers in Fort Worth! Where else could you get one of the best beers in Texas AND get your haircut?! I really love how the community backed her until she opened her shop. Her shop is one the coolest places in the Southside, tucked away behind a Bridal Boutique off E. Daggett. If you are in Fort Worth and need your haircut, book your haircut with Laleh! You will NOT regret it!

Fort Worth StockYards
20x24in Watercolor
by Ross Reitzammer
Texas ranchers using the Chisholm Trail had their cowboys start cattle drives from either the Rio Grande or San Antonio areas. They joined the Chisholm Trail at the Red River, at the border between Texas and Oklahoma Territory. They continued north to the railhead of the Kansas Pacific Railway, where the cattle would be sold and shipped eastward. Fort Worth, a city built on the backs of those cattle trails and railroads, gave birth to the Fort Worth stockyards and grew into a booming metropolis. Fort Worth saloons provided cowboys with refreshment and entertainment early in its history, and the city is still known for unique, down-home hospitality.
Today, it's a modern city, with international art institutions like the Kimbell Art Museum. The Fort Worth Stockyards are home to rodeos and the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame honors pioneers.
In this painting, I wanted to capture the spirit of the Fort Worth Stockyards as well as show the cattle crossing the railroad, which was a big part of what Fort Worth is today.

Fort Worth Stockyards WIP
20x24 Watercolor in progress
Living in Fort Worth just 5 miles from the famous Fort Worth Stockyards, I felt inspired to attempt to paint a more ‘Western’ themed painting. I’m stepping out of my comfort zone and attempting to paint cows and horses. This may take a while!
I just wanted to share my progress
"Izzy and her book"
8x10in Watercolor by R Reitzammer
It was a unique challenge to paint my granddaughter! It's one of those times when the subject emotionally touches you. What can I say? I'm a proud grandpa! My daughter 'commissioned' me to make a small painting for Father's Day. It was challenging for me because I'm used to painting on a big surface.

"Gregory Joel at Opal's Farm"
20x24in Pencil and Watercolor
On Greg's blog post (gregoryjoel.com), the subtitle says, "everyone has a story to tell." Greg's story has inspired me to paint this portrait of a servant. Greg is the manager of Opal Lee's Urban Farm. He is also a gifted writer and can tell his story better than I.
From an interview with Greg (edited):
"I never intended to be a farmer. I majored in Political Science and Radical Political Economy and hoped to teach. Life had other plans. Long story short – I found out about Ms. Opal's dream of an urban farm in Spring 2018 by accident (although I'm not convinced it was accidental).
.. when I met Ms. Opal, I knew that this was something I wanted to be a part of."
(Opal's Farm)' s business model is: ten percent of our produce goes to area food banks. The remainder is split – ideally 50/50 – between retail (farmers market) sales and subsidized (neighborhood) sales. The retail end helps the farm become financially stable. The subsidized portion is dedicated to local communities without access to fresh produce.
Covid was a challenge for everyone in 2020. The greatest lesson I've learned in the last two-plus years is that we have an amazing food justice community in DFW (growers, activists, organizations, and advocates) who work hard to end food insecurity and help all of us live better healthier lives. Opal's Farm is proud and honored to be a part of that community.
Ultimately, Opal's isn't just about the food. It's about community and people. There's something special that takes place at the farm. I call it community." -Greg Joel
