Did you know that there used to be tunnels under Framingham's campus?
Campus tunnels once allowed students to move from one building to another under severe weather, especially cold winter days. Other universities around Massachusetts once or do still have similar tunnels built for the same purpose.
FSU's tunnels have since been shut down and closed due to worsening conditions inside. They are a remnant of Framingham State's long and interesting history.
St. Patrick's Day brought a beautiful sunset to campus!
We hope you had a great holiday and a wonderful start to your Spring Break!

Our Open House Resource Fair in the McCarthy Forum was a great success! Thank you to all those who helped us make this possible, and thanks for all the prospective students who visited!
It's and at , we are celebrating it by honoring the notable female alumni of . Learn more about them below...
- Olivia A. Davidson (b. 1854, d. 1889), was born to a freed woman of color. Her family was targeted by members of the K*K and her brother was tragically murdered. She graduated from Framingham Normal School in 1881 and went on to teach around Massachusetts. She was hired by Booker T. Washington, and helped him develop the Tuskegee institute. The two eventually married.bHer legacy is marked by a focus on African American women's physical health during the period of Reconstruction.
- Christa McAuliffe (b. 1948, d. 1986), was an American teacher and astronaut from Concord, New Hampshire. She received her bachelor's degree in education in history from Framingham State college in 1970. She was one of 11,000 applicants to the NASA "Teacher in Space Project," and was selected as the candidate. The goal was to conduct experiments and teach educational lessons from space. Unfortunately, her space shuttle, the Challenger, broke apart less than 2 minutes into the flight, tragically killing all seven crew members. Her legacy remains through the names of over 40 schools around the world, in addition to other learning centers, parks, scholarships, documentaries, and more. She was posthumously awarded the Congressional Space medal of Honor by President George W. Bush.
- Alicia Hyndman (b. 1971) is the assembly member for the 29th District of the New York State Assembly. She was born in London and moved to New York City at a very young age. She received a Master's Degree in Public Administration from Framingham State college, and would continue to work in education policy in departments around New York. While in office, she has championed women's rights, and past state legislation that allows New York City to hand out as much as $150,000 to Minority and Woman-Owned Business Enterprises to promote minority businesses.

Take a look at FSU's history throughout the 1980s with Framingham's rendition of "1989: Taylor's Version."
The 1980s were probably the first decade where Framingham State had the classic college atmosphere. In the years following the widespread expansion of campus under President Justin D. McCarthy in the 1960s and 70s, Framingham State's enrollment continued to increase with numerous buildings erected around campus, including the McCarthy Center, Hemenway Hall, Henry Whittemore Library, Corinne Hall Towers, O'Connor Hall, and Larned Hall.
The 1980s were therefore a culmination of the expansion, renovation, and financial efforts that were poured into the school during this period of history.
From the Ram's Den Pub to a campus-wide Olympics ceremony, the 1980s were a wild time at FSU. How times have changed! You'll notice that we do share some similarities to the FSU of forty years ago, such as filled parking lots and fire trucks on State Street!
Some of our favorite pictures can be seen on these slides, including the second slide with the old McCarthy Center (renovated years later), and the RamTram of the 1980s on the fifth slide, which was actually a solution to parking originally proposed by commuter students.
These photos were collected through numerous yearbooks located in the Dean's Conference Room.
WE ARE REBRANDING! ✨
This has been an ongoing process. What was once an Orientation account for new students has since turned into so much more on behalf of our Rams Engagement Ambassador team, and it's time that we officially transform this account from "fsunewrams" to "FSU365."
Our goals for the future will be to continue capturing student life on the daily. From random events that we stumble upon to student spotlights and other unique content, we hope to make your digital experience at FSU fun and entertaining.
Some of our upcoming projects will include...
- "Day in the Life" of an officer.
- RamTram Ride-Along
- FSU's edition of "Hot Ones" () featuring faculty and staff members
We are so excited to see the future of this account, and thank you all for following along so far!

Dr. Larry McKenna of the was spotted on Groundhog Day in a town known as Woodstock, IL, where "Groundhog Day" was filmed.
"The movie Groundhog Day was filmed here. Movies are the form of art I live most…except maybe for Shakespeare! Groundhog Day is a great movie because it found a new way of telling an old story, and that new way makes the story seem fresher. The idea that there’s novelty to be found in even an old story is so heartening." - Dr. McKenna
As many of you may know, the groundhog did not see its shadow today, which means an early Spring is ahead of us! Today marks the first time in four years that the groundhog hasn't seen its shadow.
It must've been due to Dr. McKenna's presence.
A winter's dusk 🌙
Although it's freezing cold out, tonight's dusk provided an opportunity for some winter photos of campus. Stay warm, Rams!
