⭐️ Patient Spotlight ⭐️ Look at this fabulous before and after that one of our patients sent to us! She first came in with severe back pain and could not walk without tripping over her foot. She was very fearful she would need surgery to correct her issue. She was on a time crunch and needed to get back abroad for her job ASAP. After working with Amelia over the holidays and then continuing her exercises while abroad she is now walking, maintaining her workout routine, and traveling for work again. She stopped in this week to share this before and after picture with us and to show her representing Franklin physical therapy while working out while in Paris!

The SFMA(Selective Functional Movement Assessment) is a movement based diagnostic system used to identify dysfunctional movement patterns to find the root cause of pain - not just the source. Just because you feel pain in one party of the body does not mean that is necessarily the cause of the pain. Can’t touch your toes? That does not necessarily indicate you have tight hamstrings. The SFMA will help address the root cause of pain, improve overall efficiency for improved performance throughout the body. We have several physical therapists certified in the SFMA give us a call to schedule an appointment today!

On Sunday our physical therapist Christina participated in the Climb for a Cause at Fenway Park. She and many others climbed 1,803 stairs, one for every adult currently experiencing homelessness in the greater Boston area. The event raised over $472,000 which went directly towards Project Place’s mission to end homelessness and poverty by creating pathways to employment and housing.

🤩 ⭐️ Check out a sneak peek at our new blaze pods that are coming to the clinic! ⭐️ ‼️

Danielle is demonstrating their use for upper extremity but these are also very useful for the lower extremity when used on the ground or mounted on cones. Blaze pods can help improve reaction time and dual task training which is important in preventing injuries in athletes and reducing fall risk in patients with decreased balance. Blaze pods also have benefits for power and agility and make rehab more exciting and engaging!

Fantastic review for Christina and Franklin PT!

Training for a spring race? Here are some tips for safe running during winter months:

1)Plan your run for when the sun will be out to help keep you warm and possibly ice melted
2) Avoid overstriding by taking short steps
3) Run on trails instead of the streets & sidewalks
4) If you have to run on the street run on the opposite side facing traffic
5) Stick to routes that you know will be well shoveled and salted
6) Wear running gloves & a hat
7) Wear multiple layers, smart wool is a great material keeping you very warm with minimal bulk
8) Add spikes or grips to your shoes to improve traction and decrease the chance of falling
9) Understand your pace will be slower
10) Wear polarized sunglasses to protect your eyes from glare

If conditons are extremley icy or temperatures are negative run on a treadmill!

01/19/2024

Afraid of falling on ice? Falls can result in a wide variety of injuries which can result in long term impairments and decreased ability to do the things you want to do - reguardless of your age. Below are some tips to avoid falling. WALK LIKE A PENGUIN!

1) Keep your center of gravity over your front foot close to your body
2) Take shorter steps
3) Slow down
4) Shuffle or waddle keeping feet flat
4) Wear proper footwear
5) Assume that all dark patches or wet spots are ice
6) Do not talk on the phone or text while walking
7) Avoid carrying heavy steps while walking
8) Bend your knees slighty
9) Use handrails
10) Keep toes pointed out slightly

Lastly, keep your hands outside your pockets so if you do fall you can catch yourself!

Thank you for the kind recommendation Nicole!
