Thank goodness someone is saying it 👏🏼 Our clients depend on our unbiased clinical-quality lactation care, and we can’t do that if we’re pushing products, promoting them or taking samples. Sure it doesn’t seem “fair” when every other industry is benefitting from doing it, but as advocates for the families we serve, we owe it to them to maintain the highest ethics as we provide care. 💕💚💕

A lactation consultant with Boston Medical Center's innovative Curbside Care Post-Partum Mobile Unit, we were thrilled to have Renee Gomis Ferraro, MS, IBCLC, join our board of directors in 2024.

We recently had the opportunity to ask Renee a few questions including, “what's the one thing you wish everyone knew or understood about donor milk?” Here's what she had to say . . .

"Premature babies are extremely vulnerable and need human milk to help protect them. In a hospital setting we can only rely on milk from a milk bank that ensures safety standards such as Mothers' Milk Bank Northeast. This is what makes donating to an accredited non-profit milk bank particularly powerful. Here, this gift can truly save lives."

Thank you for a fabulous tour. Human milk is such an important resource, and we are so grateful for all you do for these babies and families throughout the northeast. Another great event from 🤍🤱🏻

As soon as your placenta is delivered your body gets the green light to make milk. Try putting your baby to breast as soon as possible after birth. These early frequent feeds will help to establish your milk supply. If you need help ask your hospital lactation consultant, or check out some videos online. With some practice your milk supply will be paired with your baby’s needs in no time!

Couldn’t be more excited to receive these from . Especially after the fantastic Latch on to Learning with featuring Kira Kim last night 🙌🏼

▫️Find a class that prepares you for meeting your goals: we all have different lifestyles and priorities. Make sure the class you sign up for can take your specific needs into consideration
▫️The class is taught by a qualified professional. A feeding class should be taught by someone who is trained to teach and counsel, and has clinical knowledge about infant feeding and mom’s health. An IBCLC is the highest trained lactation & infant feeding professional who is able to help both you and your baby, and should not be incentivized by marketing or product promotion. If you take a class that is sponsored by a product company, just be aware that the information you receive may be skewed or incomplete
▫️Check in with your insurance company prior to booking a class. Most insurances are required to cover lactation under preventative care. But this doesn’t mean you won’t have to jump through a few hoops. Your insurance may have IBCLCs in network or out of network. When you ask if a class or consult is ‘covered’ that usually means the insurance company pays for it with no cost to the client. When a visit is ‘reimbursed’ it means you will pay out of pocket and then submit a Superbill and be reimbursed after.
▫️Have a support system in place. Post partum is hard and can go in many directions. By taking a class during pregnancy you can be prepared and also have resources ready if things don’t quite go as planned. Have a support person ready in each area of care and don’t hesitate to ask for help 🤍

▪️This article hit me hard, about how as mothers and parents we are willing to move mountains for our children on the dream of a better future.

▪️Motherhood is complicated yet so ordinary, beautiful and at times heartbreaking, different than it may have been imagined, or possibly everything you may have imagined and then some. Mothers are shaping the next generation as they are also being reshaped and growing.

▪️For all the moms, moms to be, and mother-like people out there- regardless of the phase of motherhood you may be in-you make this world a better place every day and have such an impact in the world. Happy Mothers Day!

Women are fierce. They are powerful. No matter what language they speak, how they dress, or the work they choose to do. What matters is they have a choice, and the freedom to carve out a life for themselves.
As long as we know women who are strong and resilient, we must respect them, carry them forward, lift them up.
For they are the product of all our other selves, the women we were, the ones we strive to be, the collective struggle of our mothers, our sisters, our daughters.
Our salvation will only come if we stand together”
— Lang Leav, Woman’s Anthem

Well said 🙌🏼 skin to skin for all the parents 💞

We've known for a long time that skin-to-skin is important (vital!) for mamas and babies, but research is showing it matters for dads too!

Add this to your intentions/plans for immediate postpartum. And prepare to be melted while watching it. 🥰

It’s World Breastfeeding Week 🤱👩🏻‍🍼🤰🏽 and while it may seem like just another way to market or celebrate a thing we do, the reality is that breastfeeding requires support… support from our employers, the community, our healthcare providers and the government 🤍This week serves to mobilize and recognize the importance that breastfeeding has across the lifespan and the necessity of supporting families when they need it most
