Although I work with parents and caregivers nurturing children newborn to five years old, I have a special interest in working with families navigating foster/kinship care and adoption and families who have recently received a diagnosis of disability or developmental delay. House lawmakers are pushing forward a $78 billion bipartisan tax package, with a focus on temporary changes to the child tax credit. If approved, eligible families could enjoy an average tax cut of $680 for the year 2023. The refundable part of the child tax credit could increase to $1,800 (2023), $1,900 (2024), and $2,000 (2025), aiming to benefit lower-income families with multiple children. However, negotiations are ongoing, and the bill is on hold during the House recess. Keep an eye on updates as tax season kicks off on January 29th.

This law requires that employers provide accommodations for ALL employees experiencing ANY medical conditions during the perinatal period - from conception to postpartum. This includes fertility treatments, miscarriage, morning sickness & hyperemesis, eclampsia, postpartum mental health conditions, etc. This fills a massive legal loophole, providing time off from work for ALL women after childbirth.
