If you suspect that you may have been exposed to monkey pox, contact your healthcare provider.

People with monkey pox should isolate until the rash has fully resolved, the scabs have fallen off, and a fresh layer of intact skim has formed.

Treatment is not required for many people because monkeypox lasts for 2-4 weeks.

Your healthcare provider should be able to determine if you require treatment, for specific populations.

TLDR: Anyone can get monkey pox. If you get it, it is usually mild and lasts 2-4 weeks. Isolate yourself and notify your doctor. Protect yourself.

One banana is said to contain. 422mg of potassium, and according to the American Heart Association, 4700mg are recommended per day for the average adult.

I don’t know about you but I’ve picked up my fair share of over-the-counter medications.

But most of us don’t know, that these medications can cause nutrient depletions.

1. Ibuprofen & Naproxen can lead to folic acid, vitamin c, iron and zinc deficiencies

2. Aspirin can lead to Folic acid, Vitamin B5, Vitamin C, Calcium, Iron, Potassium, & Sodium deficiencies.

It’s important to be mindful of the relationships between these meds and the nutrients involved.

Who needs supplements?

If you're generally healthy and eat a wide variety of foods, including fruits, vegetables, whole grains, healthy meats etc. you likely don't need supplements.

However, for those who don’t fit into that criteria, here are some tips to follow when choosing and using supplements.

1. Check the label. Read labels carefully. Product labels can tell you what the active ingredient or ingredients are, which nutrients are included, the serving size and the amount of nutrients in each serving.

2. Avoid excessive doses. In general, choose a multivitamin-mineral supplement that provides about 100% of the Daily Value of all the vitamins and minerals.

3. Check expiration dates. Dietary supplements can lose potency over time, especially in hot and humid climates. If a supplement doesn't have an expiration date, don't buy it. If your supplements have expired, discard them.

4. Watch what you eat. Vitamins and minerals are being added to a growing number of foods, including some cereals and beverages. If you're also taking supplements, you may be getting more of certain nutrients than you realize. Taking excessively more than you need can increase your risk of side effects.

World Malaria is observed annually on April 25th, bringing awareness to this preventable disease, and the efforts being made to end it.

As a survivor, along with many other immigrants, we are all very familiar with the symptoms and it’s immediate effects.

The most effective anti-malarial treatments are synthesized from a herb called Sweet Annie.

Drinking 4-7 cups of Sweet Annie tea along with other anti-malarial measures has shown effectiveness against this disease.

A lot of us are considered vitamin D deficient, and these long snowy months aren’t helping either.

The 2 main ways to get Vitamin D, are by sun exposure and taking Vitamin D supplements.

Food alone cannot get you the right amount you need daily.

The amount of vitamin D you need each day does depend on your age. So be sure to talk with your pharmacist or health care provider for the right amount for you.

- Functions as antioxidant
- Assists formation of collagen
- Needed for wound healing
- Said to decrease the risk of cancer and heart disease ( when coupled with other healthy measures)

2. Be realistic: Do things that YOU actually enjoy, and that works for your budget and time.
3. Play with others: Doing solo activities is good, but doing fun activities with company you enjoy is even better. It also helps to foster and build those relationships you already have.

Your store-bought vitamins may not be as beneficial as you may think.

Most people are aware that vitamins are essential for our health and bodies.

However, what most people do not know, is that NOT ALL VITAMINS are created equal, and some "Natural" vitamins are actually synthetically produced.

Ideally, you should aim to receive nutritional vitamins from Whole foods.

But if not at all possible, when picking up vitamin supplements, be sure to take a look at your label, and look out for these synthetic vitamins to avoid.
