Summer Safety Tip #5 - Beach Rules
Beach days can be some of the best days. But remember that hot sand and saltwater can be dangerous for your pet. If you do bring your bestie, keep the following in mind ...
⛱ Don’t let them drink saltwater
⛱ Keep them cool to prevent heatstroke
⛱ Watch out for burns on their paws from hot sand
⛱ Stay away from rough waters
Stay safe and enjoy your summer!

Summer Safety Tip #4 - ‼️ Hot Car Dangers ‼️
Have you ever had to wait in a hot car on a warm day while your gas tank fills? Even with the doors and windows open, it can get oppressively hot. 🔥🔥🔥
Think shade helps? Nope, a car's interior can become lethally hot even in the shade. Leaving a pet in a parked car, even for a short time or with windows cracked, is always unsafe.
If you suspect your pet needs help, contact your primary vet or call us ... we can help!

Summer Safety Tip #3 - Pool Plans
Weather like this is perfect for lazy days by the pool. As tempting as it is to let your pup swim to their heart's content, there are important safety tips to remember before diving in.
💦 Don't assume your dog is a strong swimmer
💦 Keep pool chemicals out of reach
💦 Consider buying a life jacket for your dog
💦 Keep plenty of fresh water available
💦 Use a fence to limit access
Stay safe and cool out there!
If you suspect your pet needs help, contact your primary vet or call us ... we can help!

Summer Safety Tip #2 - Hot Asphalt Burns!
If you can't hold your hand flat on the pavement for 7 seconds, it's too hot for your dog's paws!
Temperatures continue to soar this week with highs in the 90s. Did you know that asphalt temps climb much higher than air temperatures?
Air Temp 77 ➡️ Asphalt Temp 125
Air Temp 87 ➡️ Asphalt Temp 143
Air Temp 97 ➡️ Asphalt Temp 150
That means walking your dog can be extremely dangerous—leaving sensitive paws vulnerable to painful burns.
If you suspect your pet has burned his or her paws, contact your primary vet or call us ... we can help!

Do you remember Rebbie—a 5-year-old Labrador Retriever mix who came to us back in March because she was paralyzed in the hind end after a long day of play? Our on-site MRI machine helped our neurology team diagnose an acute intervertebral disk extrusion in her lumbar spine. Dr. Harris performed an emergency hemilaminectomy—also known as decompression surgery, and after a couple of days of recovery at the hospital, Rebbie was discharged to her family.
This is Rebbie today—walking independently! We couldn't be happier for this sweet girl and her family!

Meet Sokka—a 2-year-old male Doberman Pinscher. This handsome boy saw Dr. Lauterstein for a small laceration received from roughhousing with a housemate. He was such a good boy, allowing us to give him some pain medicine and clip, clean, and close up his wound. Our overnight staff loved him and we all hope he’s feeling better!

As we head into this holiday weekend, remember to keep your pets safe while you’re having fun with family and friends! Here are 3 things you can do …
🐾 Hosting a BBQ? Keep food and drinks, especially alcohol, raisins, chocolate, and onions out of reach.
🐾 Heading to the lake or pool? Never leave your pet alone near the water and have them wear a safety vest if you’re heading out on the boat or paddleboard.
🐾 Can your pet be identified? Dogs can easily escape while people are coming and going, and loud noises, like fireworks, can frighten your dog into running off. Make sure they have a collar with appropriate ID tags on it and that their microchip information is up to date.
Have a great weekend! And remember, call if you need us … we can help!
