LET’s CALM NEIGHBORHOOD SPEEDERS

Street trees and landscape can have a positive affect on driver behavior. At least that’s what studies show. Colorful crosswalks build sense of community—while keeping pedestrians safer and drawing drivers’ attention to them. Traditional calming methods work too, like the speed bumps we installed 18 years ago after resident complaints.

I’m ready to listen and share ideas. Speeding is a problem. It’s time to act. Enough studies.

Here’s some ideas.

Promote curbside rain gardens. Imagine streets lined with grasses and flowering perennials. Feed native birds and bees, reduce runoff, filter out pollutants and slow the speeders. It’s a win-win all the way around.

Encourage more street tree planting. The City has a program for this. Let’s get more neighbors to take advantage.

Explore colorful crosswalk designs. Crosswalks are a rare commodity in our neighborhoods. Maybe they’re all we need to slow speeders and build neighborhood pride.

Invest in traditional traffic calming. Speed bumps and traffic circles work in some situations.

Pursue expanded enforcement efforts. Like speed cameras.

The City of Frederick will post and announce results as they are received by the Frederick County Board of Elections. Based on the schedule provided by the Frederick County Board of Elections, the City will post results on the following schedule on the election website (cityoffrederickmd.gov/2021election), on the City's social media channels, and on CH 99 (TV and Online):

Tuesday, 9/14 Evening: Results of In-Person Early Voting and Day-Of Voting will be posted

Thursday, 9/16 Evening: Results of Mail-In and Dropbox ballots will be posted (Day 1 of Canvassing) | Canvassing will be streamed on CH 99 and the City's YouTube Channel.

Friday, 9/17 Evening: Results of Mail-In and Dropbox ballots will be posted (Day 2 of Canvassing ) | Canvassing will be streamed on CH 99 and the City's YouTube Channel.

If needed, vote canvassing for Mail-In and Dropbox ballots will continue on Sat, 9/18 and Mon, 9/20.

The election will be certified at 9 AM on Tuesday, 9/21. This event will be streamed on CH 99 and the City's YouTube Channel.

News is out! Jennifer has officially filed for Mayor today!

I want to thank everyone who came to Early Vote and to vote in the Primary yesterday. You did your jobs by casting ballots. We cannot expect better results from our government if we, as citizens, don't do our jobs.

It's a bit disappointing that turnout was not higher, but I did what I could to get people to the polls without lighting my hair on fire!

With the help of my smart and dedicated team, we hand-delivered almost 10,000 palm cards; posted and shared hundreds of Facebook messages; and, mailed about 25,000 postcards to active voters.

For the first time, we used automated calls to get people more aware and -- to my surprise -- many people actually called me back to talk! One woman said she was actually "on her way to vote right now."

You care and you make a difference. Thank you so much.

I ran for specific reasons and I hope that is why you cast your votes for me.

I believe in transparent and effective government. I want progressive and smart legislation that serves the community, not special interests. And, I believe government service can be honorable, but it should not be a life-time assignment. With your help, we made those points part of the discussion.

The General Election is under way and I know you will use your knowledge and passion for Frederick to make your vote count. I know that I will.
