This is the updated Social Services to Adults (SSTA) flyer!
SSTA provides assistance to adults to remain or become self-supporting and self-sufficient, and seeks to prevent abuse, neglect or exploitation. The program is in all 24 jurisdictions and works in conjunction with the In-Home Aid Program to help adults maintain independence.

Having a curious, on-the-go baby means you'll need to childproof your home room by room, so they can explore their surroundings while staying safe. Here are some babyproofing ideas and tips that can apply to any or all rooms in the house:

Install smoke and carbon monoxide detectors
Cover electrical outlets
Install baby safety gates
Secure furniture
Prevent slipping
Remove choking hazards
Store batteries away

In 2021 data reported from the NDPA indicated the loss to drownings equated to 10 school buses full of children.

Alarmingly, most recent data from NDPA indicates we lose the equivalent of 11 school buses full of children to fatal unintentional drowning each year in the US.

The CDC reports that for every 1 fatal child drowning, another 7-8 are seen in emergency departments for non-fatal drownings.

Water safety education and proactive measures are more vital than ever. Drowning is preventable!

Whether you’re staying close to home or traveling afar, safety remains our top priority. Swipe for essential tips to keep your little ones safe and sound during your summer adventures.

Sun Protection- it only takes a few serious sunburns to raise your child’s risk of developing skin cancer later in life. Keep SPF that has both UVA and UVB protection. Use hat and sun protecting clothing when necessary
Stay Cool and Hydrated- Light weight and light colored clothing help to keep the body cooler. Give them plenty of water, even before they ask for it
Water Supervision- During the summer, it's important to always keep your little ones safe around the water. Always keep
Ride Safe- Keep a helmet on your child when they are cruising on their bike/scooter/skateboards etc. Prevent unintentional head injuries with a correct fitting helmet

Today is World Drowning Prevention Day and we are reminded of the importance of water safety for our children.

Our Eyes On Baby campaign is committed to preventing drownings by encouraging parents and caregivers to keep a vigilant watch over children when near water. Let’s raise awareness and work together to ensure every child stays safe and secure

It's been hot, and the forecast doesn't seem to give us much reprieve in the coming weeks. For those who need a safe place to cool down on weekend days when other shelters are closed, don't forget that HHS has a Cooling Center open from 9AM through 6:30PM at the Community Table at 100 South Market Street.
