Happy PRIDE Month! Hope to see you at the PRIDE Festival this Saturday, on Carroll Creek!

In June, we celebrate Le***an, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Q***r (LGBTQ) Pride Month to honor the 1969 Stonewall Riots in Manhattan, a tipping point for the gay liberation movement in the U.S. Today, we show our support for the LGBTQ community.
Every day, we strive to provide an inclusive environment where everyone is treated with respect, compassion, and dignity. Our organization is dedicated to safe, respectful, and equitable healthcare for all.

Tonight's class is about Mental Health and Peer Recovery, and there is a strong thread in both talks. Teri Heger, leader of our Partial Hospitalization Program, talked about Stigma's hold on people, making them afraid to ask for help. Carlton Hill of the Frederick Rescue Mission is sharing some of the ways a Peer Recovery Specialist walks beside someone in recovery and helps role model and navigate success for those new to recovery. People struggling with addiction experience stigma that keeps them afraid to seek help. That's where people like Carlton are crucial. He speaks his truth to give others hope. Proud that our hospital, Frederick Health, was part of his journey to lead the County’s Peer Support Program. So thankful for both of these talented healers time with our Lay Health Educators tonight!

We have a new Bridges Lay Health Educator Cohort running through November and this group is full of connectors, influences and leaders. In our Oral Health segment, Dentist Morgan Landerman shared startling data on the links between Oral Health and other Chronic Health conditions.

She also shared information on untreated Dental decay disparities based on Income, Education, To***co use and Race. The message to all is to practice Dental hygiene daily and see a dentist. If you cannot afford Dental care, please look into Frederick Health Medical Group Dental Clinic.

Our Story

The Bridges Program builds partnerships between Frederick County medical, religious and neighborhood communities. The intent is to provide timely, easy to understand health education materials and tools which prompt people to advocate for, and improve, their own health and wellness. Using Bridges as part of a population health strategy, Frederick Health’s plan is to train Lay Health Educators (LHE) how to incorporate a health and wellness strategy into the regular routines of a shared community such as church, synagogue, or community association. Please contact Lisa Allen, Community Programs Coordinator, at 240-566-4862 or email [email protected] for more information.
