This is a perfect week to take a yoga class -- that is, more perfect than every other week. Yesterday was International Day of Peace, and today is Fall Prevention Awareness Day: two things that we strive for in our yoga practice.
Hey local friends! I'm offering a free outdoor yoga class next Sunday, August 28 at 10:00. Grab your sunglasses, yoga mat, and sunscreen for yoga in the beautiful surroundings at Gomes Park. We will set up on the grass and hopefully get enough shade from the trees. All levels can do this class.

Thanks for yoga-ing and walking with me to support HERS Breast Cancer Foundation annual fundraiser. We walked more than 5K (too pretty to stop) along Sabercat Creek Trail. It's not too late to register for your own 5K walk, sign up for another yoga class in October, or make a donation to HERS. First time teaching any in-person class since March 14, 2020 -- good thing I remembered how to teach without looking at a camera! I think there was as much chatting as moving today 😀 Washington Wellness Center has resumed in-person classes and I'm teaching Keep it Moving Mondays 3-4. A nice small group for now, because all my other students want to stay on Zoom, which is great because we would not fit in the room.
Gyms and fitness studios may be opening up for in-person classes, but my students are preferring online/Zoom classes. Why? Because they're saving time (no driving and parking), money (high-cost of gas), and love the convenience of doing fitness and yoga in their own homes. We stay socially connected by chatting before/after class, and meet in-person monthly for social time.

Do you foam roll regularly? I know I need to, yet somehow I don't. When I'm having a problem (such as now, low back/hip) I will roll daily. But then as soon as I feel better I tend to stop. Making a commitment to myself to keep it up-- and now I'm telling you, so feel free to check in with me during a class and ask if I'm rolling.
Your Breath, Your Movement
In the privacy of your own home, when you’re not surrounded by other students in the fitness room, it’s “easier” to stay tuned into the pace of your own breath and the pace of your own movements. If you breathe faster, you move faster. If you breathe slower, you move slower.
Easy enough? Not necessarily, and that’s why we call it a yoga PRACTICE.

My family loves April Fool's Day! For me, I had fun with my classes today. Started off Gentle Yoga class pretending it was Strength and Conditioning class — lively music blaring, active warm up, weights ready to go. But only one person joined me, everyone else looked at me like I’m crazy (yes, just a bit). Then I taught Keep it Moving (a gentle movement class) and told them we are going to start on the floor and be close to a wall as we’d be working on headstands today! And then we’d all meet up at urgent care later today — haha. Any tricks in your home?
Happy "Zooga"-versary -- almost to the day that I started teaching Yoga and Keep it Moving via Zoom, and somehow we've all found ways to embrace it and make it work. That certainly is my silver lining to the pandemic -- realizing that virtual classes can be fun as a teacher and as a student.
