AS FAR AS I KNOW:
That, 88% of people 65 and over are making modifications to their homes for the common reason to accommodate aging parents or their own age related needs. When I did Interior Design & remodeling, one of the houses had two master bedrooms and it was so lovely. Windows across one wall of the bedrooms so that you could see the indoor pool! All kitchen cabinets were wheelchair adapted and so much more. They were both professors at KU med Center when they were still working. But the pool had a Hoyer lift so that she could be lowered down in there and do her exercises which was genius and also included a elevator. It sounds very very cushy, but it was actually very well thought out and not that huge of a home. I have an addiction to the smell of chlorine water.💦 so therefore I said please let me know if you guys ever decide to sell this home lol. 😂 My point is that planning your retirement to include being at home to the end is absolutely possible. I have a lot of experience in the Design section and also in-home care, as I did Design for 15 years and in-home caregiving here for 12 years.
