Today, the Department completed its third youth summit. The "Your Time, Your Voice" Youth Wellness Summit took place in Huron this time. Over 75 students from 8th to 11th grade attended the event from 8 am to 12:30 pm. Thanks to the support of the Coalinga-Huron School District, the students attended as part of a school function.
We thank the numerous partners from the district, the City of Huron, the LEAP Institute, some of our contract partners, and the Department of Public Health for their help with the event. Students learned about Social Determinants of Health, Environmental Prevention, Behavioral Health Careers, and resources like the Soluna App and 988. They also had the opportunity to provide their feedback, recommendations, and express their needs related to wellness and behavioral health.
Thanks to all who were involved and supported this latest effort this year.

Amazing work!
On Wednesday, the Fresno County Department of Behavioral Health held its second "Your Time, Your Voice" Youth Wellness Summit. In partnership with Parlier Unified, the event engaged 34 students for an afternoon. The youth learned about Social Determinants of Health, Adverse Childhood Experiences, Youth Advocacy, wellness art activities, breathwork, and information about the Soluna App. With this background, the youth identified and made recommendations about the needs of local Latino youth. The recommendations and information will be processed and included in a report to inform planning, strategies, and efforts to better serve youth, especially in rural communities.
Thanks to all the community partners who participated and supported this effort for youth. Special thanks to the PUSD administration and team, and to the youth who dedicated four hours of their afternoon to this important dialogue. The next summit will be held at the start of June in Huron.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and it's also Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. Let us use this opportunity to speak about mental health and wellness and also promote mental health within our AAPI community locally. As we work to raise awareness around mental health, we also want to make sure we include some groups who have historically been underrepresented in the wellness effort due to things like stigma, cultural considerations, and language barriers. Today, Amanda Aguilar with ABC30 shares some quick insights for our South Asian community. We'll have more insights in the weeks to come.

Today a billboard with inspirational student artwork went up for May’s Mental Health Awareness Month. As featured earlier this week in a local news story, Clovis Unified hosted an annual mental health/wellness poster contest. DBH partnered with the District to have the winning poster be featured on a billboard as part of May’s Mental Health Awareness month.
Today the students, their families, school staff, media and DBH all gathered at the site of the billboard (North bound on Clovis Ave, and Clinton Ave) for a short press interview. The inspiring messages of “My Struggles don’t define me, they refine me”, will be visible for the month of May. Congrats Avi and Maliene. The student news interview will air today at 4pm and 6pm.
Today the Fresno County Board of Supervisors Proclaimed May as Mental Health Awareness Month, and also Maternal Mental Health month, in support of the Department’s efforts to raise awareness around mental health, and to reduce the stigma related to mental health.
