Prof. Granata met up with CSUF History alum Vincent Gonzalez in DC! So fun to catch up and learn about his work as Public History Manager at the United States Capitol Historical Society. Prof. Granata is spending July as the summer residential faculty member for the Cal State DC Internship Program.
Premiering on the History Channel on Sunday, April 28, "How Disney Built America" is a nostalgia-filled show that explains the rise of Walt Disney and his empire. The focus will be on the creation of his beloved characters, films, and theme parks. In addition to historical recreations of important events, the show interviewed many Disney scholars for their perspectives, including our very own Dr. David Marley! 🎥😃

The National History Honor Society (Phi Alpha Theta) has informed us that the newest volume--incidentally the 50th--of our journal has won the first prize in the Gerald D. Nash Award competition (Graduate Electronic Journals). Congratulations to all authors, reviewers, and editors (especially the four senior editors: Rachel Jensen, Eric Morales, Jacob Nikolson, and Isaiah Colton Thompson ).

Gabriel Sevallos Enters UC Santa Barbara PhD Program in Fall ‘24
It gives us great joy to announce that Gabriel Sevallos (28) from Ontario will be beginning his PhD in History at UC Santa Barbara under the guidance of Prof. Miroslava Chavez-Garcia in Fall ’24. Gabriel earned his History BA at CSUF in ‘19 and returned for his Masters in ’22. Gabriel’s MA thesis studies the Northern California Sempervirens Club and its effort to protect a signature piece of Northern California’s landscape and secure the creation of Big Basin Redwoods, the oldest state park.
Save the Date! The Student Mental Health Resource Fair will be taking place on Tuesday, April 23rd. 🙂

The Vietnam War Guest Lecture: “Why Did the Communists Win?”

Speaker: Mr. Ve Tran served in South Vietnamese Air Force from March 1969 to April 29, 1975 and was 1st Lieutenant as a combat helicopter pilot. He has been living in the US from 1975. He retired as a civil engineer.
Outline: • Early Years (the late 1940s to 1969): Village, arrival of Communist agents, leaving the village for the safety and education
• Military Services (March 1969 - 1975): Training, Military base operation officer and battle field combat aviator
• The last years of the war (1974-75)
• Escaping from the South Vietnam On April 29, 1975 from Tan Son Nhat Air Base
• Reflection on the war: “Why did the Communists win?”

There was great turnout for the exhibit opening for VISIBLE, A Social Practice Art Exhibit featuring original artwork and research by CSUF students engaging a variety of digital tools to create and assess how digital media can both contribute to, as well as combat racial, gender, and personal bias.
