As COVID-19 continues to challenge our economy, infrastructure, and everyday routines, we’re reminded that our work toward an inclusive, equitable, and regenerative economic system for all has never been more important. It’s halfway through , and it’s been incredible to see around the world celebrate and amplify the values of the B Corp movement. The heart of this global movement is our community of people driving business as a force for good—people who are parents, friends, partners, children, siblings, and colleagues. People who care about workers and communities, and who put public health and safety ahead of profits. People who set the standard for what responsible business looks like. People who know that all of us, wherever we are, are interdependent, interwoven, and that we’re in this together.
Finally getting around to posting on my blog while I distance myself from COVID-19! I hope everyone who reads this is taking the proper precautions to stay safe and stay home to prevent the spread of Coronavirus!
I've been really terrible about updating my blog so I am personally going to take this social-distancing opportunity and try to bring people up to speed on what I've been up to these last few months!
Starting with a post on estate planning, which I've been updating remotely for clients this past week! If you don't have an estate plan or think you may need to revisit your estate plan, browse the attached article on my thoughts from recent probate and litigation cases.
Sending healthy and healing thoughts to all!

Burke Law is one of the sustainably-minded businesses participating in the upcoming lab! 🙋🏻♀️♻️🌎
Calling all college students in Florida: are you interested in using the power of business as a force for good?
B Corps—like Patagonia, TOMS , and Ben & Jerry’s —are “for-profit companies certified by the nonprofit B Lab to meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.”
B Corporation certification is to business as Fair Trade is to coffee, USDA Organic to apples, or LEED to green building.
University of Florida 's Social Impact & Sustainability Initiative (https://news.warrington.ufl.edu/entrepreneurship/importance-of-the-social-impact-sustainability-initiative/) in the UF Entrepreneurship & Innovation Center is launching a collaborative program, in partnership with Florida for Good (https://floridaforgood.com), to help Florida companies achieve B Corp certification by working with teams of student consultants from UF and other colleges & universities in Florida. This program is designed to connect students to sustainability-minded businesses across Florida who aspire to become certified B Corporations. The Business For Good Lab offers students an opportunity to engage in experiential learning projects (earning credit for ENT6930/ENT4934) to deepen their knowledge of social impact & sustainability.
Undergraduate & Graduate students at colleges & universities other than UF are welcome to join us by participating fully online via Zoom & Canvas. As long as you let Dr. Joys know of your interest (by completing the form here: http://bit.ly/ufbusinessforgoodlab_2020_studentinterest) by 5pm on Tuesday March 10th we will be able to help you to get registered (and any late registration fees will be waived). Students' home institutions will determine whether or not the credits earned count toward students' degree and whether students' financial aid/Bright Futures will cover the cost of enrollment.
