Welcome to Ecoglyph!
Reading science fiction as a kid, I imagined exploring other planets and finding creatures no other human had seen.
Making art guided by a fascination with flora (plants, fungi, lichen, and slime molds!) keeps me in the realm of discovery. Most of the plants I work with are from the garden, yard, or woods of subtropical Florida. Even though they’re familiar, I’m always excited to see them—they’re constantly transforming.
Since we experience plants with all our senses, their complexity can be overwhelming. Thinking about how they sustain life on our planet adds to the awe. To focus my observations, I imagine the plant I’m working with is an oracle. I make glyphs: symbols of its physical and metaphysical traits. I offer them as communion between us humans and the natural world.
If you have questions about my work, suggestions of sustainable art materials and practices, are interested in artistic collaboration, or would like to swap seeds and stories about the plants in your life, I’d love to hear from you!
