PUPS Dog Training!
We are a team of experienced trainers who came together to help you better understand your dog and learn great life skills so that you can have a life-long, positive relationship with your furry family member. Does he ignore you in the park, pull on leash, rush at and jump on guests, chew furniture, bark incessantly? These are just a few of the things we can help you with! We use modern, reward-ba

Next Introduction is coming up fast! Come searching with Mantrailing!
Midday Sunshine break ๐
A packed puppy lesson for this cutie. Our main focus was preventing potential future behavior issues, as well as puppy basics of potty training, biting, and recalls.
Triangle ๐บ๏ธ Recalls: one of my favorite exercises to strengthen the concept of the dog BYPASSING distractions in the environment to come to you when they're called. That silver prize bowl is just a metaphor for anything in the environment the dog wants to interact with--it could be a squirrel, a really good smell, the neighbor, etc. Dogs need to practice making an active choice between detouring to the distractions (aka prizes!), OR coming when called. And we don't want the dog to think coming to us always gets in the way of their fun: responding may grant them access to that fun environment.
Easy levels include being on leash and keeping the prize further from you & the dog. Build up to closer distances & off leash.
Looking for a cool (air conditioned! ;) ) activity to do with your dog this summer? Free on Fridays? Try K9 Nosework! Since Melanie's waitlists are growing too long, we are having Kate Godfrey of Comprehensive Canine come teach at our Gainesville studio.
Nosework is great for confidence, strengthens the attention span, tires them out more than physical exercise, and more! There are no prerequisites needed for the intro to K9 Nosework class.
Finally made it to another agility trial, woohoo! My Rey of sunshine did well ๐ her JWW run was a beauty and her Standard run was...less pretty, but still earned a decent score ๐ซฃ Thanks for all the help .dogstar
Twas a productive Tuesday for these two. Congrats to Bear & Sahara on their new advanced (Community) Canine Good Citizen titles.
Happy New Year! ๐
Some random 2022 pics. I could be better about more pictures in 2023- I have too many adorable & successful canine clients but too little photos of them!
Day 25 ๐ Word Recognition. See you in the New Year! ๐
Day 24 ๐ Arm hoops & hulahoops. Jumping for joy! โ๏ธ
Day 23 ๐ Hug...but that awkward stiff armed, butt out type of hug.
Day 22 ๐ Clean Up! Cousin Chief has arrived from Atlanta! I tasked my brother and future sister-in-law with teaching Chief a trick for tricksmas and they did a good job ๐
Day 21 ๐ Say Hi = Lean against. Really dropped the ball not getting over to a Santa or something to have the dogs Say hi to- ran out of time!
Leaning against someone is a nice alternative to other things for greetings. Sometimes sit is more difficult(especially on slippery floors), or uncomfortable for certain dogs & injuries, etc. If you don't like your dog to jump on people, Leaning is another tactile way your dog can engage with someone. Rey likes to jump and lean ๐คช she gets away with a little naughty, that's for sure!
Day 20 ๐ Conga! Sorta...can easily say we won't be winning any dance contests, ha.
Day 19 ๐ Cooperative Care tricks! While it does take a lot of patience, you can teach your dog to cooperate with handling and wellness care. This is more of a necessity in Zoos! It's fun to watch cooperative care videos of zoo animals
Day 18 ๐ Socks! Building off of yesterday's little helper tasks. I will need Bentleys larger mouth to successfully retrieve my drinks, though ๐
Day 17 ๐ Tissue, please! Cute, but tissue + dog saliva is not the most practical.
Day 16 ๐ Wrap around & Rewind (wrap backwards!) I'm still slowly working on improving this trick to have more fluid movement :)
Day 15 ๐ Create! This behavior was taught for Rey to be a part of a project called the Creative Canine through Eckerd College and I just learned that the study will very soon be published in the International Journal of Comparative Psychology! The project was inspired by the Innovate project done with dolphins to research their innovative thinking skills to create different and new behaviors/tricks.
Day 14 ๐ Back Feet tricks. The skill of "rear-end awareness" is very helpful for sports and the strengthening that comes with it is great for injury prevention!
Day 13 ๐ Bow
Day 12 ๐ Search! Nosework for fun and/or practical purposes!
Day 11 ๐ Sit Pretty
Day 10 ๐ Cuddle! A practical trick for picture taking ๐
Day 9 ๐ Bang Bang! Trick
Day 8 ๐ Dig!
Day 7 ๐ Speak/Whisper.
We could use more practice on distinguishing the volume of speak and whisper but these were some decent reps!
Day 6 ๐ Weaves, weaves, & weaves
