Happy National Dog Day from our Service Dogs In-Training and Therapy Dogs In-Training!
It's super important that Therapy Dogs never jump up on people. It's a skill that's hard for just about every dog who wants to say hi. ๐ But Therapy Dog In Training Winston has mastered the art of sitting politely while getting pets. ๐ He loves to hear what a good boy he is and his good manners are appreciated by everyone who says hi to him. โค๏ธ
We know it's hard to believe, but some people don't want to say hi to a dog. ๐คท๐ฝโโ๏ธ So we train dogs in our Therapy Dog Training Program to ignore people who ignore them, even when the person is in their personal space. ๐๐ฝ Therapy Dog In Training Winston shows how it's done with the help of Volunteer Assistant Joe. ๐พ
Mario needed help with a very common issue - door dashing. ๐จ His Border terrier, Sol, needed to learn patience and self-control, which doesn't come naturally to a terrier. ๐คฃ Trainer Sorcha used the interior doors at the Gainesville Canine Academy training facility to teach Mario and Sol skills needed to prevent Sol from dashing towards an open door. ๐ We're so proud of little Sol for paying close attention to Mario throughout the practice of this safety skill. ๐พ Good job! ๐๐ฝ
Therapy Dog In Training Winston will be visiting medical facilities to cheer up patients and give them some much-needed snuggle time with a big floofy dog.๐ Today he learned to approach people who are seated, whether in a treatment chair or wheelchair, on their side rather in front of them. ๐ฉ๐ฝโ๐ฆฝ This way, they get maximum Winston fluffball contact to help them feel better. โบ๏ธ
Service Dog In Training Rowan providing that ๐oh-so-wonderful๐ Deep Pressure Therapy to help his mom down-regulate her nervous system. ๐
Service Dog W***y is really good at making himself inconspicuous while also keeping an eye on his mom in case he's needed to assist with symptoms of her medical condition. โค๏ธ
I had the pleasure of meeting and working with Richard and Service Dog Marcy recently. ๐ Marcy helps her dad keep his stress level down to better manage his medical condition. As a medical alert and medical response service dog, Marcy is trained to intervene when her dad's stress level increases and she helps him deescalate from a high stress situation. For Richard, Marcy is truly a life-saver.โค๏ธ
Service Dog In-Training Misha is โญrockinโญ her public access training! She's in a position often called "Under" that helps her mom remain calm and focused in a busy, noisy place. This is one of the task-trained behaviors that makes her a great service dog for her mom. ๐โ๐ฆบ Good job, Misha! โค๏ธ
I recently found this trainer's account and love her ideas for canine enrichment! They're easy to set up and often use things you already have. Check it out and see what fun you can have with your dog! (We have no affiliation. I just like her ideas and videos.) Enjoy!

to Rachel and Otter on the Service Dog ! Rachel and her dog Otter trained weekly with Sorcha over several months to learn task-trained behaviors to mitigate symptoms of Rachel's medical condition. Otter is now an official Medical Alert and Medical Response Service Dog! Way to go!!
Luna is a Service Dog In-Training, learning to assist her mom in public. Service dogs need to be well-behaved and well-trained in the specific tasks that help their handler cope with their medical condition. Luna did a great job at her very first training session at the airport with Trainer Sorcha. ๐ฏ
At Gainesville Canine Academy, we help you train your own dog to be your psychiatric service dog for the medical conditions anxiety, depression, PTSD, and neurodivergence. Psychiatric Service Dogs help their handlers process sensory information, concentrate and focus better, decrease reactions to triggers, improve cognitive function, ease anxiety attacks, and recover from (or prevent) panic attacks. For people whose daily lives are impacted by these medical conditions, a service dog can truly be a lifesaver. ๐โ๐ฆบ
Congratulations to Courtny and her dog, Oliver, for earning their Canine Good Citizen title today! Courtny and Oliver also graduated from our Therapy Dog Training Program today! ๐ Way to go!!
Michelle Dunlap
Congratulations to trainer Sorcha Allen on her renewal as an AKC evaluator for the Canine Good Citizen title, and her renewal as a member in good standing with the Association of Professional Dog Trainers!

Sorcha's professional goal in 2024 is to earn her dog training certificate with the Certification Council of Professional Dog Trainers, a major milestone in a dog trainer's career.
"With CCPDT certification, you know you have tested yourself against and passed rigorous standards for knowledge and skills in science-based dog training." - Certification Council of Professional Dog Trainers

Is your dog a "people person"? He might be a great therapy dog, like Oliver, who is learning the "Go visit" command. In our Therapy Dog Program, you and your dog will learn all the skills needed to pass therapy dog certification assessments.
Did you know our trainers can teach your dog the skills of a psychiatric service dog, like Service Dog W***y? Work with our experienced dog trainers to learn how your dog can assist you in living with PTSD, anxiety, and depression. ๐โ๐ฆบ
Do you want an easy way to keep your dog entertained? Engage him in the mental game of finding treats inside his toys or containers that challenge him. ๐ For an added challenge, hide these treat-stuffed toys and containers to encourage sniffing. ๐พ
Have you ever seen a Doggie Stick Library??
Luna is a service dog in training for her dad. She's doing so well walking politely on a loose leash in a high-distraction environment.
Service Dog Barley is doing stellar at ignoring distractions, like the big ole pit bull two feet away from him. ๐
Big thank you to Louie and his mom for volunteering to be the distraction at Barley's training session! โค๏ธ
Whitby says leash training is much more fun at the beach!
Come on guys...we're coming back. ๐
Do you want to help your dog adjust better to being alone? We can help! And it's pretty fun for you and your dog. ๐

Have you heard of teaching your dog to ring a bell to ask for outside time? We can help you! Puppies and adult rescued dogs like Lucy from the The Humane Society of North Central Florida can quickly learn this skill to communicate their needs to you. Trust us, it's a lot more reliable than your dog just staring at you using telepathy. ๐๏ธ๐๐ฉ
Service Dog in Training Bear is learning to stay between his handler's legs. Why? Because he's being trained to assist an autistic child who is non-verbal and tends to dart off. Bear is learning how to keep her safe. โค๏ธ
Puppy Whitby is doing great on her leash skills and sitting politely for a photo. ๐ Good girl!
What's the ONE thing you wish your dog would learn? ๐ถ
Service Dog Barley has great focus on his dad. ๐๐ง
We love this post from Hey Buddy Comics โค๏ธ
