Effective March 16, 2020, Barr Systems has fully implemented our business continuity plan to ensure uninterrupted support to our customers. This plan includes work-from-home processes for our employees. From our customers’ perspective, these changes will be transparent. The servers that our customer use to access software updates, tools and other support information are completely cloud-based to ensure 24/7 access.

To: All Barr HOST Communication Suite (BHCS) Customers,

Microsoft recently released security updates that were found to potentially cause your BHCS system to not function properly. Microsoft has since released updates that have resolved this issue.

Here are the findings of the testing that Barr Systems has completed and our recommendations at this time. Please consult Microsoft Support to find the latest updates for your particular system.

Windows 7—to date no customers have reported issues with this version and our testing has confirmed that nothing needs to be done regardless of Microsoft update level

Windows Server 2008 32 and 64 bit-to date no customer have reported issues with this version and our testing has confirmed that nothing needs to be done regardless of Microsoft update level.

Windows 10 Version 1607- upgrade to latest Security update. Currently KB4057142

Windows 10 Version 1703-upgrade to latest Security update. Currently KB4057144

Window 10 Version 1709-no fix from Microsoft available at this time. Recommend do not take January 3rd updates until Microsoft releases patches for this version.

Windows Server 2012 R1 and R2 apply latest Security update. Currently KB4057401

Windows Server 2016- upgrade to latest Security update. Currently KB4057142

As always, we are testing all updates as they become available and will send further communication when any more information becomes available.

NOTICE:
The Barr Software appears to have an issue with any of the Microsoft Security Patches released Jan 3rd or later regardless of the Operating System. Barr is working on a fix for this and we ask that you do not install any of these security patches.

Microsoft Security Patch Issues

Customers please do not apply the updates listed below to your BHCS system. We have encountered a problem with these Windows updates that cause the Barr HOST Communication Servers (BHCS) Spool core not to function properly.

If you have already applied the updates and found an issue:
1) Uninstall the update
2) Stop all of the BHCS services
3) Run the Setup.exe from \Program Files\Barr Systems\BHCS\Setup.exe
4) Choose the “Repair” option
5) Check “Repair Registry”

Barr Systems is working as quickly as possible to make our software compatible with this security patch, but for now do not install it. As soon as Barr has a workaround or a patch we will send out a notification to everyone on what to do.

The next evolution of Channel Printing has Arrived.

Barr Systems LLC announces the release of Print Channel FICON, the next evolution in Barr's Print Channel lineup. Print Channel FICON allows newer Mainframes that do not have Bus and Tag or ESCON connectivity to connect to the windows world via the Channel. Print Channel FICON emulates a 3211 printer and allows mainframes to continue to print as they have always done, but instead of going directly to the printer they can now go to the Barr HOST Communication Suite and allow that to direct the files to a myriad of different destinations.
